but he is my generations (30years old) Hunter S. Thompson.
Hunter S. Thompson chronicled the dying gasps of an entire counter culture movement that reverberated around the world.
Anthony Bourdain wrote pretentious a$$ pieces about food, which he then tried to tie into some inane cultural relevancy around that topic.
They ain’t the same.

He was literally a cuck, lost all respect for him after that.

Tony was a philosopher and beautiful soul that we didn't deserve.

He made cool shows. He was also a gigantic egomaniacal pretentious douche bag who checked out on his on teenage daughter because he was a weak, sad human.

I miss him a lot. He's a big reason I started traveling more and getting off the beaten path when doing so. It's a shame what pussy will do to a man.

Yes, this cannot be said enough. The documentary on him identified a lot of flaws. Also, how he fired longtime loyal staff bc the crazy woman wanted to run the show... never forget how awful he was to family and loyal staff...

He gave Waffle House credit for what it was. I respect him for that.
The other chef he was eating with at Waffle House ordered a garden salad. Who the frick orders a garden salad at Waffle House?

Sure … I work a good deal in his favorite place in the world - SE Asia. I find myself following his footsteps in many ways - random food stalls, interesting bars, meeting people that don’t look like me or speak my language regularly and living a life on the road. It also can be lonely at times away from friends and family, so I get both sides of the lifestyle.

Nah, I do not get emotional over celebrity deaths, Royal deaths, etc... Especially ones with the woe is me, my life is horrible bit.

Seemed so genuine
He seemed that way, but he was a phony.
He made all of that fluff about bridging gaps and understanding others through food, then stated the only person he wouldn’t sit down and eat with was Donald Trump.
Whether you like Trump or not, it exposed him for letting his political leanings take over, when he pretended not to care about political divides.
Would’ve been an interesting guy to have drinks with and share a meal, but in truth he was at his base a drug addicted brunch chef who made the rounds with a crew of drug addicted line cooks jumping from one struggling restaurant to another.
Biggest thing his show exposed is that those who everyone think is successful still have deep flaws.

I have to be honest, I never liked the guy. I never cared for the pretentious, tortured soul ”artist” act.
I guarantee he was a nightmare to be personally involved with.

I didn’t know who he was until he died, and I’ve still never seen one of his shows. So that would be a No for me.
Turns out it wasn’t an act, eh?

AB was a beta, but he didn't kill himself. Forgot the whole story but I do remember him dining at a restaurant of Obama's choosing in some shithole country. And the place was sketch as hell, walls were littered with child prostitution flyers. Maybe he couldn't be trusted or saw too much. His wife was very adamant that he didn't kill himself though.

Sketch as hell ? It was a family restaurant in Hanoi arse - not the four seasons in Bali
And he wasn’t married
Idiot

The episode when he goes to Ted Nugents ranch was great. Two guys with totally different backgrounds coming together to enjoy things that they had in common.
Don’t see tv like that today anymore unfortunately.
