We all have our problems, but he is my generations (30years old) Hunter S. Thompson. I find myself wishing and wanting to explore more of the world because of him and his shows. He opened up so many eyes to different cultures and experiences.

He was on my "I want to go drinking with this person" top 5 list.

Hate that his demons chased him down.

I was a huge fan of his shows. I wanted to be him so bad. As someone who has experienced deep chronic depression and literally used his shows as escapism, his suicide hit me like a ton of bricks. I liked to watch his show and live vicariously through him, I wanted to be him, and even he didn’t want to live. That didn’t help my depression one bit

i don't think he killed himself, killed himself.

wasn't he just jerking off and doing exotic asphyxia and something went wrong?

Anyone who commits suicide is immediately on my bottom five to drink with.

Something about him resolved with me.

Coca Cola had a slogan for a while - “What the world craves is the real thing,” and that’s so true. Really, it’s true in every facet of life with every person you meet.

Bourdain, with all of his short comings, failures, addictions, and demons, never pretended to be anything other than the broken person he was. And that, IMO, is beautiful. We could all learn something from that.
