Cracker Barrel is shaking up its leadership after CEO Julie Masino announced she is stepping down following a turbulent tenure marked by a controversial brand overhaul and mounting pressure to revive sales.

The restaurant chain said Monday that Masino, who took the helm in late 2023, will step down as CEO and from the board, effective August 10, after leading an ambitious turnaround plan that included remodeling stores, refreshing menus, and updating the brand's image.

Her departure comes after the company faced backlash from loyal customers over its modernization efforts, with critics accusing the beloved Southern chain of abandoning the rustic charm that made it a household name.

She was doing the right thing attempting to overhaul. They were not doing well and their base was dying off.

It was a stupid overreaction

The business needed changes, sure. Her "overhaul" was dumb as shite.

Fix the menu, service, cleanliness, etc., but to completely remove the soul of Cracker Barrel was misguided.

No one wants to admit this but this is accurate. They definitely should have performed it in phases so it wasn't so sudden and triggered the negative PR

It was the same as women who complain pro female athletes don’t get paid enough: they weren’t supporting the product anyway…..

Agreed. Every time I see one of these stories I ask myself how someone gets one of these CEO jobs for multi millions and then just throws shite against a wall. They could have hired a Wal Mart Manager for $200k to blindly try a plan like she came up with.

She is lobbying for a job at Buc-ees where she has a can’t miss plan to attract a new demo by going vegan and sugar-free.

She insulted the majority of their customers, then her company stood behind her for about a year, before getting rid of her. this means the company supported her bullshite.

Is it really a “shakeup” if she’s stepping down? They were dumb to keep her on this long to begin with.

Even after she trashed your brand

False. She was trying to put lipstick on a pig. The first and main thing you do to revive a restaurant is to fix the damn food. They went cheap and centralized their food preparation and it backfired. You don't fix that with paint and a new logo and keep chugging along.

Ask Chili's how well fixing the food works. It's so damn obvious.. yet it's always the "brand" that's stale. No, the food is stale. The brand is fine.
