The current airport is trash. Food is terrible, bathrooms are terrible. Access to outlets, terrible.
I have never once thought the Nola airport sucked while spending the 45 minutes in there.....I have always enjoyed the ease of it compared to other cities.
Nola isnt really a layover city so I dont imagine even non-locals spend more than 45minutes-1hour inside.
I get new restaurants and new everything wows people, but I think sacrificing logistics and convenience for new and pretty is a poor trade-off

Dulles in NoVa has a runway shuttle system to two terminals.
Never have had any issues.

Do you consider Airline "Drive" between Williams and the parish line to be a nice view? Travelers who rent cars will still have the opportunity to travel on the Airport Access Road to I-10 and check out the 15 or 20 billboards plugging MSY, NO govt and Rick's.

In case you haven't read the whole thread, it's about a lot more than just a pretty new look.
The current airport is more expensive to operate. The new luggage system will be more efficient. The new security gate set up with be more efficient and less costly. The way the gate layout and logistics plan is being set up will be better.

All I really care about as a buisness traveler is ease to park, walk in, get through security, and then get to my car and get home when traveling
MSY does that great. If they save money while being more efficient then it can be a good business decision, but i will still have a chapped arse if it becomes a pain in the arse
I cant pretend to know the financials and everything else to talk about the business side of things, but personally, as a consumer, I am not happy with this for now. If they figure out how to fix the logistical issues of everything, I will be fine with it

I've always found MSY to be pretty efficient at moving people through security.
Can't recall ever waiting over 10-15 minutes

Dont really travel for business anymore, but this is all I look for when traveling.
Im traveling to a freaking airport. I want to be in there the least amount of time possible.

I get that, but I'm spoiled by DFW. I can get off the plane, walk 100ft to the baggage carousel, and into my car.

Between delta only having 2 people taking bags and security line wrapping all around the ticketing area, we missed our flight.

People not involved in this have no idea how much of a clusterfrick the entire project has been. Even with the temporary access from the Loyola exit, they still haven't figured out how to get people to the parking garages.

I think the point of this thread is that we shouldn't have to be making that sacrifice f the retards in charge would have done things correctly and built the infrastructure before building the new terminal.
But current MSY sucks.
ETA: And my Uber/Lyft driving the last several months has been limited to almost nothing but airport runs. So I've had several people tell me about how they feel about the airport. This needed to happen, but not in the order it did.

Southwest is the same way. If they had self service tagging and bag drop off like other airports it would be more efficient, which is what the new airport will have.

How many Red lights will you hit if you get off at Loyola from CBD and how many from LaPlace?
Conversely how many red lights will I encounter if I get off on Williams from either direction?
Here is what I see happening—I-10 will become a parking lot in both directions.
The alternative route from the CBD will be the Earhardt Expressway to get to the new airport so expect that to back up on airline hwy.
I don’t understand why they can’t just do a temporary off ramp onto Williams to Vets in the interim because this artery clog is going to cause business to leave Louisiana altogether.

I think you have two groups of people here who are opposed to this.
1) The people who are banging on the fact the interstate connections won't be done for a while. While an extremely valid concern, it has nothing to do with the actual airport itself, or the need for a new terminal. It's something the state dropped the ball on. If the state would have had their act together, no one would be talking about this. The city nor the aviation board have no authority to build these roads or force the state to build them.
2) Those who don't think a new terminal is needed. My guess is many of these people are short-trip business travelers, who never check bags, who have pre-check or status to bypass most of security, and who time their arrivals so they can basically walk on the plane. For those people, maybe the terminal improvements aren't "needed". But, to say it's going to make their experience worse is a joke. The new facility will benefit all travelers. More security lines, more options, etc, are never a bad thing.

That is really accurate.
You have to think of the new airport and the clusterfrick surrounding access as two different issues in a way.
The new airport, ONCE YOU ACTUALLY GET TO IT, will benefit everyone. Travelers, airlines, etc etc. It will be an upgrade in every appreciable way. It will attract more flights, and better direct flights. That is just a fact.
The problem will be getting to the goddamned airport, which is currently (and for the next 4 years), a disaster.

exactly. I travel 25-26 weeks out of the year. I see some on here that say they love DFW. I think the new MSY is modeled after Love Field, which I personally think is a great Idea. I love that airport. I can get from the curb to the gate in under 10 minutes. Tons of food options, plenty of bathrooms and access to all of the gates from one security checkpoint.
I don't think people realize how having separate terminals and checkpoints limits an airports capabilities. If MSY wants to grow as an airport, they needed to have the ability for passengers to access all gates without going out and back through security.

One security check point is actually a good thing.
8 or so less baggage claim belts for starters. The fact that all airlines will share said belts with the exception of WN who will have 2 belts to themselves.
Theres a lot of 'behind the scene' stuff that unless you work at the airport (I work at MSY so I do know what I am talking about more than probably anyone here lol) you wouldn't understand.

It's unconscionable that this wasn't deemed an essential component of opening the new terminal before doing so.

Can't say I agree with this. Access is absolutely part of the equation, and a major one at that.
I agree with your post overall though.
