Jindal and Mitch done fricked that up.

A big part of the problem is the stupid governance model we have in place. Mitch's jurisdiction ends at the airport property line. Should he / could he have leaned on the state / Kenner more to get roads built? Probably. But he had no ability to force his hand.

Roadway access to the property line, under current governance structures, is purely the department of the state and the city of Kenner.

If the state, city of NOLA, and city of Kenner could have gotten along, what they should have done was have the airport take control of all the land from the property line, down aberdeen/loyola to the interestate. Then, the aviation board could have, working with the state, overseen the road construction.

But that would require our politicians to actually work together to improve the region. That's not how it works here.

So wait. Can I still take the normal ramp off I-10W to get to MSY?

I assume (since most times I have a rental car) things wont change and I just go to the rental car area then wait for a damn shuttle?

Yeah, if you are returning a rental car, you would do exactly that.

The out-of-towners and leisure travelers are the ones complaining. Business travelers see how the current facility compares to other cities and cannot wait for the new terminal.

The biggest thing that pisses me off, the new on ramp for loyola will be a left entrance so even when done traffic will be backed up from the Spillway to Veterans.

hmmm was contemplating taking a job in st charles parish and deciding whether to move to metairie or river ridge. this may tip the scales in favor of river ridge if moving to metairie means sitting in airport traffic every fricking day.

They should just bomb the airports in NOLA and BR and rebuild a new, size appropriate single airport to serve the two metro areas somewhere in between both cities. Yes. And hire the state of Texas, or the city of Ft/ Worth or Dallas to actually oversee all the planning and construction of same. Without any daily input from any LA politicial entity, or politician.

Haha! Who am I kidding?

Concerning the airport, Mitch should take the blame for a lot of stuff and Jeff Parish gov't as well.

The transportation/access is squarely on Jindal's state government. JBE had to start the process and find the money, that takes 2-3 years which is why we are here now.

Also not to derail the thread and not saying Jindal should have take the federal rail money, but he could have considered an alternative plan where CBD-MSY was the initial build out phase, eventually connecting to BR. Their are a lot of rail proponents who would have fought that phasing, but some of those people are idiots.

going toward New Orleans? yeah I imagine that's the only place they could put it without a lot of relocations.

One of the benefits of MSY is the relative closeness to downtown NOLA. Building an airport in say St. James Parish takes away a lot of that.

Not to mention, we have this little problem surrounding NOLA called water. Almost every day there's an accident screwing up traffic on the spillway. With limited routes to get from the city to such airport, the number of missed flights would go up dramatically. And it's not like there's going to be suburban growth between that place and either city. Orlando's airport is in the middle of arse nowhere, but there's huge growth in that area. We wouldn't have that here.

We have a flight out on the 20th. Hopefully enough time to get some of the major bugs out. At least we leave at 5am so the traffic will be as good as it will ever get.

I’m flying Southwest to Orlando the Sunday before Memorial Day at 12:40. Is this going to be a pain in the arse for me?

I’m not necessarily a proponent of having a regional airport between NOLA and BR, but i’d have to disagree with you that there wouldn’t be a lot of growth there.. after all, places like Prairiville and the like were barely blips on the map until a few yrs ago.. also NOLA Is pretty lacking in terms of places to live if you don’t want to live in the City- if you’re looking for the ‘suburban’ life and you make decent $$, then you either move across the lake or... well, that’s pretty much it (Lakeview and OM excepted).. so there could be major growth between BR and NOLA if an airport were located between the two cities.. then the only major issue would be that all those new residents would be living smack-dab in the middle of Cancer Alley.

You are exactly right!!

They should leave the new terminal empty and make it a monument to boondoggles!!

Landrieu and his cousin got rich.

Can you imagine how long it will take them to learn how to operate that terminal??? Bags will be everywhere except where they are suppose to be.

All those high end restrauants going in won’t last either.

I would imagine some of the concrete pours that took place at the airport took several companies and every truck they could get their hands on.

At one point that was sort of true. Not anymore and LCCI is still on site pouring landscape planter curbs
