The current baggage claim belts are spread out. So if you fly in on delta you simply have delta flights. Once again you are going from 14 or so to 6. WN has 5 belts now but use 3-4 because the airport wont fix the other 1-2. So at the new airport what WN uses now (basically) will now have to service ALL the airlines.

Wait. Something that is taking over 10 years to do, and isn't done, you are holding up as a model?

Pay attention, it's an example of how long it takes to do a project like this in La. as well as an example of how local government can do things without begging for big brother to do it for them.

quote:

They would have ended up with a more expensive, and less useful facility. No one in their right mind thought the state would act like this. Jindal et al took a giant shite on this because they don't like Mitch. Politics at the worst.

What's the final bill on this project? Do you even know?

MSY could be remodeled for less, existing infrastructure could stay in place and the airport could remain a solid, local airport. Terminals A and B could have been replaced. C and D are fairly new.

In 2013 when Landrieu decided to build this Taj Mahal did the state of La. have more pressing highway needs? Yes we did.

If the airport was that big of a deal local govt. should have stepped up.

I love how you think this is somehow a scenario whereby there is one "side" that can be knighted for and one that can be shite upon.

It's pretty clear to me where the fault lines in this situation. That doesn't happen often.

One look at the S&W board thread on the first page of the O-T tells us how screwed up city government is. But... this situation is not something that can be pinned on the city.

Alright so how do you get to the fricking airport?

We really gonna drive through a two lane neighborhood road? What an abortion.

I-10 to Loyola, exit towards the airport going south. Go about a block of two, and cross Veterans. You are then on airport property.

Will the cab drivers and ubers still operate from the cell phone lot on airline? I really hope not. They are complete assholes 24/7 in that area impacting my drive to the office.

Cab drivers stay in the right lane on the airport rd until the final second to veer into the airline hwy turn lanes. They are just the fricking worst.

The airport owns all that ghetto?

Uber is going to have a dedicated spot at the terminal. I read that. As far as cabs, I think they are going to have a waiting lot on the north side. they won't continue to use the cell phone lot on airline - a new cell phone lot is being created.

They own all the empty land heading out to Veterans, yes.

They don't own the "ghetto" that borders it.

Seems to me you could have torn down the existing ramp and had it go to ground level then to Bainbridge and that would take care of all traffic to and from NOLA.
Instead the current road will become an exit for Airline highway and the route to rental car return.

You could have also had an exit at the parish line and built a new road to it from the new terminal. Lots of vacant land back there.

Instead we got this.

Wouldn't that cross the runway, or too close to the runway? I just assumed that's why they didn't so something similar. Otherwise, yeah, that's a great solution.

I just looked at google maps. There's buildings pretty much from south of Vets all the way to the taxi way. Now, maybe they should have bought all those people out.

Perhaps you could have put something hard up against the 310 exit and hooked it around, but now you are talking about elevation over a swamp, which would no doubt drive the cost up.

I think the location of the Loyola flyover is the best place they can put it.

$2B airport.
The exact amount the total to repave all the bad roads in the city was estimated at.

The airport bought most of those buildings. The large scrap metal place and others are already gone.

I was fine with the Loyloa flyover when it looked like option L was the plan, that was the diverging diamond intersection. Instead we got C which is the left entrance on ramp that starts in front of kenner seafood.

Here's a big part of the problem in this state. To get this needed exit approved and funded, we had to do it at the same time as a project in Baton Rouge and a project in Shreveport. God forbid we let one city have something without giving money to other cities.

Yeah... I've seen a few more of these in recent years... the shopping center by I-10 and Fremaux has them...

Hopefully people can figure it out. I'll set the over/under at 10 in the first month!
