But I think this is a very fair compromise if AD says, "Prove to me over that year it will be different than the shite show it has been and I will sign that deal"
the issue, is that's too late.

Why risk Zion rubbing elbows w a star who already quit on his team once and showed he has the chest of an ole lady that possibly thinks this franchise isn’t good enough

AD agrees to opt into 2020-21. Griffin has a full year to show him how different things are and how he can win here long term. Next summer, AD then can either sign the supertax extension or request a trade if he still wants one and Griff won't fight him.

Didn’t you say on the most recent pod that you thought this had very little chance of happening? Did you get some new info?

ETA: Never mind I misunderstood.

I don't think AD has the balls to do that.

Id want to know what would qualify as a successful season in AD’s eyes for him to resign. Do we have to get to the WCF?

We have leverage now to trade him. We should take advantage of that as he has already ruined the relationship here. The only thing that would make me trust him his firing his agent/agency and signing a long term contract. I am worried the upcoming free agency changes will hurt good trade opportunities. I still think he will have lost the support of the team around him.

Would seem like that would make Griffin look weak given he has declared numerous times that he wanted AD all in or he would work to trade him. That would appear that he backed down from that stance and decided he could stay partially in while he makes his decision.

F' that. Either AD signs the max or he can play elsewhere. You lock him up long term or deal him so as not to run the risk of an injury ruining his trade value.

You folks who want to run off a top 5 talent because he hurt your feelings are being short sighted.

I think it was a total bitch move but you’d have a tough time convincing me this team is better without him.

Last night has the potential to be the subject of some serious what ifs down the road, franchise altering stuff

Fans will be mostly against it now, then when/if it happens, they will sell themselves on it. I have seen it a thousand times, and so has Griff.

It's not the IDEAL situation, that's why its called a compromise and if you met Griff for 10 minutes, you would see how much confidence that guy has and if AD gives him a year to prove himself, he thinks thats almost as good as signing for 5 because Griff would feel like he would have no problem proving it to AD if given a year

At this point, I don’t see him changing his mind even if he gets a year.

I see him doing the LeBron thing where he demands we do a ton of crap to make him happy lest he walks, then he walks.

I just don’t want this ambiguity bullshite. In or out. If out, we are positioned to take advantage of a bidding war between multiple teams who see AD as a potential key to getting other stars.

Fine with this ... extra year buys us more leverage and a chance to see how good Zion is

So what happens when he half asses it again and isn't buying into the team and blows out his Achilles? All of his value will be for naught.

IDK, maybe I'm just still salty, but at this point sell him to the highest bidder and move on

Meh I can’t really blame him for seeing before believing, look at it as a way to keep management’s feet to the fire and make good on the things they’ve promised.

I think the people valuing the draft picks are also doing it thinking we can land another max star FA....but that’s something that’s alluded us for quite a while.

I also like the idea of Zion not having to come in and be the guy from day one too. Take some pressure off of him while he develops.

You don't want to go through the same drama of inserting AD as the barometer of your success or how you are progressing. The front office should run a team, not players. I don't think AD stays mostly because there will be an adjustment period for Zion and AD does not want to wait around another few years to see what happens.

Re: Weight being put on Zion. Assuming the team keeps Holiday then you already have a quality player who is the established leader. And New Orleans is not LA or New York with a brutal sports media and crazed/fickle fans.

Im fine with that as a comrpomise as long as we have the extra year (it actually gives us a break if we end up cinvincing him to sign the supermax). However I am 100% against holding onto him into the season for any length of time much less into the deadline without him excercising the PO.

The Pelicans lose absolutely nothing with this, and have a ton to gain. This board has always been full of retards
