Unlike western audiences, most Koreans producers and directors is fine with telling a 1 season show. That how they keep on getting to tell new and unique story where as we in the Western world like the continuation of a series.

Have you finished the season? They definitely ended it in a way to set up a season 2. It would have been better had they ended it without setting up season 2.

Also I’d expect a season 2. I keep seeing articles how this might be Netflix’s biggest show and there’s even a South Korean ISP suing Netflix because too many people are watching it

This show was kinda like hunger games, but much more violent and much more twisted like finding partners only then 1 will survive.

Seen Alice in Borderland is trending now probably because of Squid Games. Hope that increases AiB chances for a season 2.

Be prepared for some cringy acting when the VIPs show up.

Yeah, I got to that episode last night. That took the show WAY down. Just so overly cheesy with the “conceited, rich American” characters. I don’t know why, but it really took me out of the story a lot.

The marble game was interesting. I liked that episode. It reminded me a little of the AiB episode of hide and seek. Twisted that they make you play against your partner instead of with them. The husband wife team would be brutal.

The glass bridge episode was sort of stupid. The games so far have been at least winnable. The bridge one is basically impossible for anyone other than a few people to win. Add in the VIPs and it was one of the worst episodes for me.

I think I have two left. Interested to see where it goes.

Finished Squid Game earlier this week and saw people were talking about Alice in Borderland

I finished that show yesterday and thought it was just as good as Squid Game. The games were way better in AiB but the story/characters were better in Squid Game

Really need a season 2 for both shows

Because the problem with those kind of characters aren't the stereotypes, it's because they are leaning on the stereotypes to fake depth of character where no depth exists. They've provided lots of information and back story on all kinds of people in the story up until then, then the VIPs show up and they are just "evil rich foreigners."

Finished this up earlier today. I liked it and actually liked how it ended. I figured the old man would come back when they didn’t actually show him dying onscreen during the marble game. That was a nice little twist. And I liked how they ended it to possibly set up another season, but if they don’t have one this one still wraps up nicely. The side plot of the cop and his brother being the main one running things was a little unnecessary and boring. But it didn’t bother me much. As I said, the worst part for me was the VIPs. They added nothing to the story at all, and actually took away from it a bit for me.

All in all, I think SG has a more follower story than AiB, although I enjoyed AiB more. It was just more interesting and I liked most of the games more.

Definitely would watch a second season of both though (and I’m hoping AiB comes soon).

The cops' plot line bugged me mainly because it had no conclusion. I didn't mind the VIP plot as much as most because while a trope it gave the other side of the game which I think the story needs but some might prefer to leave it nebulous. I put a lot of the cringiness down to lose in translation. If I spoke Korean I might have a better feel for how bad it was.

Still haven't finished Alice yet but I am still enjoying it. It is the same but different. I think the Squid Game games are more intense since they often require a high percentage of players to die. It does seem to be moving to a much more complex situation than Squid though.

With Alice I liked the slow reveal of the big picture (that is largely still a mystery). In squid the deal is pretty straightforward and we know what's going on pretty early.

Spoilers:
I think both the VIP and brother storylines were good, but could've been executed better. I mean, the game had to funded somehow, so I already assumed there were sleezy rich dudes betting on it from somewhere.

I think that if they had revealed a little more of the brother's timeline it would've been more interesting. What happened between 2015 and now? Has he been missing this whole time? What did he do with all the money?

I haven’t read everything posted so sorry if this has been said already:

Does anyone think the cop/brother isn’t dead and will come back if they have a season 2? The reason I ask is because the game runner clearly shot him in the shoulder. I was positive he did it so he would just be injured, would fall in the water and wash up on the shore alive. It never materialized.

Thanks for the Alice in Borderland rec. Will start watching that soon.

This was one of the most intense shows I’ve watched. The old man twist was very easy to tell and I really didn’t like the glass bridge game and they easily could’ve killed everybody when they shot all the remaining glass at the end. I thought the MC should’ve gotten on the plain and moved on with his life. This reminds me a lot of Westworld with a great idea but should just be one season.

About to start Episode 8. This series has me looking at objects and sound differently. I don't think I can listen to Blue Danube the same again.

Binged Squid and on first pass, I would give it a B or B-. So many unanswered, sloppy story lines.

I am re-watching knowing the outcome and attempting to catch a lot of smaller things and its better second time around. On episode 5 and will likely end up with a B+/A- this go around.

Also on Episode 4 of Alice and have mixed emotions on it. Hoping to finish by end of week.

Spoiler:

Crazy with the 3/4 of the main characters gone by ep 4. I know there's the addition of the girl at this point, but still insane they did off the main characters in the beginning.

Several posters mentioned lack of nudity. Y’all must have missed all the chicks wearing nothing but paint in the vip section

On that note, the dialogue in that episode reminded me of a high school play in the 80s. Like they were reading cue cards. Awful.

eh, just not my thing i guess. the translated dialogue gives me a headache. the incredibly bad acting. the only chick to get naked is the dried up ole bitch. the cop story, gets shot in shoulder , fall off cliff, will obviously resurface.
the obvious final 3/2. the gambler wins but, won't spend the money. the ridiculous orange hair.

the games were the only good parts IMO.

red light, marble game, glass bridge. were brutal
