Finished Alice in Borderland and holy frick, what a train wreck the last 2 episodes were.

Yeah, I really enjoyed AIB but it really slowed down once they got to the hotel and the random flash backs to characters all squeezed in at the end wasn't the best decision. Especially since some of the characters won't be in season 2.

Still excited for season 2.

ETA: Damn, that scene at the end of episode 3 was Game of Thrones-level of unexpected yet compelling death scene.

Infinitely so. Seriously, reading subtitles can get annoying sometimes but at least you can get a true feel of the characters and emotions. The dubbed audio is completely awful.

I was so confused when black mask and the VIPs started speaking English, I thought maybe someone had switched my settings to dubbed or I was imagining things.

I enjoyed the show, but the VIPs' acting/voicing was so bad it really killed the mood and gave it a B movie feel. Were those guys actually speaking Korean w/ English overdub? Why not get English speaking actors?

I just finished it last night. I thought the whole "Beach" thing ruined it (which ended up basically being half the show) including the absurd stylized karate style fight between the girl and the sword guy. Just stupid.

Agree completely. That took away a lot of SG for me. I still really liked it though, but that made it cartoonishly bad during the VIP scenes.

Yeah, still looking forward to Season 2 though as long as they stick to a series of games like they did early season 1.

Also, I had to do the same thing as you did for their names:

Sword guy, grey haired guy, bikini/toothpick girl.

Why do we think Player 1 vote to stop game early on?

It proved his point in the last episode that they originally signed up and joined again on their own. It was a game to them. He did make the decision to end it, yes. Probably had bets on what would happen.

I liked the show. Just finished tonight. Didn't see the twist, I'll admit. I think I liked Alice a bit better because they are in a game and didn't sign up for it. They don't know why they are there. More mystery, I guess. Waiting for both second seasons, tbh.

No they’re all native English speakers. It’s pretty common in a lot of foreign shows when it comes to English (or particularly American) speakers. They’re probably not the best actors. Over on the sub Reddit, a user said their uncle was one of the VIP actors. The actors are intentionally given cringe lines. I think they wanted to highlight the absurdity between them and what was happening. But, like I said, they’re not very good actors.

I saw a meme making fun of Americans being upset over bad American actors in a Korean show, compared to how we don’t notice bad caricatures of Asian actors as bit parts in American shows.

I don’t overly care about people being offended, but it’s a fair point.

I agree. Would have been nice for it to be wrapped up in one season. Would have rather it end with him eating fried chicken with his daughter. I just don’t think the show is going to be able to replicate what made it so special to begin with. You got emotionally invested in so many characters, the message doesn’t hit as hard and isn’t as impactful a second time around. Now most of the interesting characters are gone and it’s just left as a simple revenge story when the whole first season dealt with wayyy more complicated themes than that.

I get why they’re doing it. Netflix throws life changing money at you, you do a second season. But damn. It’s kind of like Queen’s Gambit for me, just needs to be one season

BLL is another that is a poster child for this. I was totally satisfied with the ending of season 1. I didn’t have any unanswered questions and I’m less happy with season one because of what transpired in season 2.

Hollywood just wanted to smell its own farts so they said let’s throw in Meryl Streep and milk it some more.

And it’s not just Asian characters either. It’s common for a bad guy in an American movie or TV show to be some cartoonish German, Russian, Latino, etc. with some cringe dialogue. Sometimes they’re not even native speakers.
