I read the book for summer reading before my freshman year of high school

This was a summer required book...along with Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

Always hated, you got Summer homework. With a book report.

Summer was designated to give you Classic novels...and then in school they'd give us more contemporary novels.

I think a movie about it pulls people out of their hiding places

I think some movies glorify war.

However, it does seem like it paints the horrors of war in an extremely accurate fashion and is a tough watch in that sense. Every comment I read basically said you will hate the concept of war after watching this movie.

A movie about a war that was fought basically because war had been romanticized so much, and people in power were wanting to try out their new weapons...it sucks that there wasn't something available like this to have shown the horrors of war before those dumbasses started their saber rattling.

Wow. 1917 was an excellent movie. The cinematography alone was brilliant.

I hope they don’t give it the 2022 treatment.

Such a strong and important anti war book.

Well, they were the mathematical geniuses behind much of the chemical weapons and artillery used by the army of the Kaiserreich. That was kept quiet for obvious and racist reasons.

The storyline made no sense

The storyline wasn't anything special. It's the relatively unique way the movie was shot that I enjoyed. I appreciate it for what it is.

Theater experience was one of the best I can remember, you are an idiot.

So many scenes had me on the edge of my seat, the trench scene is very memorable. Of course Schofield’s run during the charge was incredible.

I'm 30 mins in and this movie is pretty intense. WWI was an awful chapter in human history. All war is, but the misery and suffering is at another level.

Hitler served at the Somme and still unleashed those same horrors on all of Europe 20 years later.

Just finished the movie. I am in tears.

I am no movie critic, and I dont want to compare this to the book or earlier movies. But Ill say this now...

This is one of the best war movies Ive ever scene.

EDIT: "best" is a poor choice of a word, I dont know how to describe it. Just brutal and real.

If you want a WWII version of this kind of movie, try out Come and See.

Wish this was showing in theaters. Read the book for the first time last year and it’s a brutal but great book.
