Pumped for this. As others have said, I wish it were available in theatres. Our kid is staying with the grandparents tonight, so we’re ordering pizza and going to watch after work!
For those that have read the book — what did y’all think? It’s been one I’ve wanted to pick up, just haven’t yet.

Do they speak English in the movie? I watched the “preview” on Netflix and they were speaking English.
I like when the language is authentic to the people talking so that might be a little disappointing if so

You can watch in German with sub titles. The movie is fricking fantastic and brutal.

Awesome thanks. Cannot wait to watch this

The movie is filmed in German however there is English audio version that Netflix is showing. I did not watch the subtitled version. It works pretty well with the movie if you dont mind the Germans speaking in King's English.

Guys I’ll be honest. I don’t like gore…is this brutal like “saving private Ryan opening scene”? Or like “bonesaw tomahawk” brutal? One I can handle…the other not.

One of my favorite books of all time, have reread it on multiple occasions throughout the years.
Damn shame I don’t read like I used to, cell phones have ruined me

This movie has several gory parts. I would not be able to watch this with my wife.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure that's how Patton really felt.
With that said, the second scene with the main character and his classmates kind of addressed that issue. They were all spurred into action because their teacher glorified war and the role they could play as German heroes. Within hours of hitting the front line that notion all came crashing down...in some cases literally.

Saw Das Boot in a theater when it first came out. Excellent.
Just finished this movie and it’s very good.

This movie is fantastic, freaking brutal depiction of the waste of human lives for the sake of prideful generals and politicians

That was well done, Netflix did a good job on this.

Just finished as well. Kind of eh on the story itself, but I thought the cinematography was done really well. Just absolutely brutal. The generals/officers who did these last minute/hour attacks (and I know we had this on the US side) should be shot. Just a complete disregard for human life.

That was how everyone looked at The Great War at the outset.
Europe had experienced continent wide wars every few decades for centuries. WWI started after an unnaturally long interval (Crimean War [1850s] and Franco-Prussian [1870s] were regional and brief). They were "due" but people looked at it through the prism of the early 1800s (not realizing that technology had caught up to warfare) and zealously raced forward, looking for honor and glory

Life was a lot cheaper back then.
Not only in war, but in about everything. Industry, mining, farming, pandemics, whatever.

Just finished it. What a treat of a movie. In my opinion, it is better than 1917. Just well made and compelling all the way around.
Erzberger, Daniel Bruhls character who signed the armistice, would eventually be assassinated in 1921 by members an early version/sort of cousin of the group that would become the Nazi Party. His assassins were tried and convicted as part of the post-WWII trials.

That’s what I thought too until the current war in Europe broke out, easily over 100,000 thousand dead, and for what? I don’t know if much has changed for Russia, same thing just a different year.

Wife and I watched tonight. It was brutally realistic. We just kind of sat there at the end in silence for a bit. Can’t imagine what it would have been like to go through 2-4 years of that.
It’s such a shame that humanity has these moments and says never again, only to forget the horrors and repeat them decades later.
