re: Variety makes star of Wonder Man imply show was cancelled due to racism
Posted by TheNameIsDalton on 8/20/26 at 10:42 pm to Roaad
Wonder Man was white in the comics but they turned him black for a TV show. He's a comic book character that most people, even some comic fans, have never heard of but it was still greenlit. It then gets cancelled after low viewership but it's somehow racist. You can't win.

The beauty of Mad Men is that after rewatching, my opinions on the main characters almost always change from a previous viewing.
I used to hate Pete Campbell and now he's someone I find cheering for throughout the series. Joan has been a rollercoaster for me, sometimes understanding her and sometimes thinking she's a hypocrite. Roger is Roger. Don always peels back a new layer for me as well.

Looks like John Malkovich will also be in season 2, pumped.

If the battle really is this close, it needs to be Russell. He has the higher ceiling and more talent. The more snaps he receives now, the bigger the payoff by the end of the season and next season.
Mack is experienced with the system and has been around for a while but there is also no guarantee he won't have any "growing pains" like it's being assumed with Russell.

Not even reportedly. He told me that directly during a AMA. I asked him was a new arena anywhere on his priority list and he said he actually likes Coleman a lot and NiL and the Practice Facility were far more important.
Coleman is going to be our home for a while y’all.
I'm sure that's what he says publicly, but outside of NIL funds, I'm sure he wants a new arena.
re: Sugar on Apple TV Starring Colin Farrell

I enjoyed season 1 more than 2 but the season 2 finale was strong and actually has me excited for a potential season 3.
I didn’t mind the reveal but…
1. I really enjoyed the Old Hollywood Noir vibe of season 1. Sugar is a great character and show but I noticed I was way more into the story compared to the later boxing/drug trafficking storyline.
2. The reveal is certainly a twist but the writers decided to be weird and didn’t really touch on it except for bits and pieces and then the season finale. Why not actually lean into it?
3. If we get a final season, it would be cool to get back into the Noir element. Maybe he tracks down an alien serial killer or something. I was just totally disinterested in the boxer and drug runners.

Imagine pretending to get upset by this after hiring an actual pedophile.

Pulling for Russell as well but let's not forget what this place was like during the Mac/Young QB battle. All the excitement was around Young and Mac came out and led us to a title.
We'll be in good hands regardless.

re: USA Today offers its picks for the 10 worst films to ever win Best Picture at the Oscars
Posted by TheNameIsDalton on 7/29/26 at 9:08 pm to Jay Are
I just recently watched The Shape of Water and it’s probably in my bottom 10. Coda would be another one that would be borderline that benefited from not many movies being released that year. Anora is already aging terribly and I think people are finally realizing how overrated EEAO is after its release.
I still haven’t seen Nomadland, Green Book, or Moonlight mainly because I just don’t think I’ll like them.
I agree with most of the list but I would nominate Around the World in 80 Days and Gigi. Emile Zola, Mrs. Miniver, and Great Ziegfeld should also be considered.
Honestly the Oscar Best Picture list kind of sucks for long stretches, which is why I try not to take it too seriously each year.

Back to back years now right? If we could keep that and stop having a game in Knoxville every season our schedule would really be cooking.
re: The anticipation I once felt for football season is gone

I feel pretty similar. I just turned 35 and have my first child due opening weekend. I was a student during the prime Saban era. I know most of it is due to being on campus at our absolute peak but so many changes keep happening to the sport and you can feel the decline.
I still buy my Phil Steele magazine. I still post here. I’ll still get in discussions with family and friends about the team but a lot of the passion is no longer in me. I think for me personally it’s just been the perfect storm and honestly, I’ve been enjoying college basketball way more the past few years and I’m still eagerly awaiting this upcoming season.
Obviously I will still support and cheer and watch every Saturday but it just doesn’t feel the same. Almost everyone close to me agrees and has the same feelings as well.

re: Filming underway on Severance S3

Agreed. It seems to be an Apple TV issue more than most studios but it is getting ridiculous. I understand if they want to wait for audience reaction and initial numbers to start coming in before formulating a decision but a show like Severance was pretty big right off the bat and it took 3 years.
Widow's Bay was a big hit and they just announced last week they're back in the writers' room. Pluribus is going down this frustrating path as well.
I don't remember shows like Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Sopranos, etc. taking incredibly long breaks between seasons and those are some of the best shows of all time.

re: Time To Bring Back Movie Intermissions?
Posted by TheNameIsDalton on 7/28/26 at 4:24 pm to ronniep1
I would take an intermission for anything over 150 min runtime. This gives the viewer a restroom break, a concession stand run, and the ability to check their phone (which hopefully means less checking during the actual movie).
Will it happen? No. Theaters are already trying to cram as many showings as they can get per day, and the convenience of the viewer has mostly gone out the window since many don't crack down on talkers, phone users, disruptiveness, etc. Adding 10 minutes to each showing would not fly.

I would like to assume this is a post in good faith but have my doubts.
13 bucks for a movie isn’t a bad deal, maybe just go on Tuesdays or during the day for now on. For the people that go more than once every 20 years, a rewards account to your favorite local theater is worth it if you attend frequently.
I have a pretty nice home theater set up and I still enjoy going and seeing something on a bigger screen and louder sound system. I would also double check and see what format you’re going to see a movie in, for Cinemark XD is their best picture and sound. It’s fine to watch the regular screens but I try and only see comedies and lower budget movies on those screens.
Prices are up for everything. You spent 13 bucks a ticket for 3 hours of entertainment, that’s not a bad deal. No one checks bags or even cares anymore at this point if you sneak in a drink or snack, just buy the right combo.
Biggest complaint about theaters is other people. As far as the movie goes, I wasn’t the biggest fan either but still a pretty good time overall.

Bama and OU should flip with Ole Miss and A&M. LSU should be below all four. UK and Vandy should flip.

re: Your predicted record for this season
Posted by TheNameIsDalton on 7/23/26 at 12:44 pm to Allthatfades
Regular season record I have us at 10-2. Essentially we split that 4 game gauntlet of death. I also think @UK is going to be a scare and @MSST as a lookahead spot before the UGA game could be tighter than we would like.
Main concern is obviously the improvement on the OL and hopefully the DL is ready to step up. Really don’t like my question marks being on both sides of the trenches and the QB position. Fortunately, a lot of talent throughout the rest of the roster that is ready to go.
Hoping 10-2 is good enough for the SECCG, not going to try and predict tiebreakers. Would be nice to win one more in Atlanta before they eventually scrap the game.

Trailer looks fine but I just can’t get too excited about a Batman villain with no Batman.
I’m sure it’ll still be pretty good but I don’t have a whole lot of faith in Gunn or his universe at this point.

If I had to guess Doom is a result of Cap going back in time and living his life, starting a chain reaction through the multiverse and then you throw in everything we know about the Loki series, Spidey and Strange messing with the multiverse, etc. and now incursions are happening and Doom is going to take advantage.
