YouTube Trailer - 10/28/22

All Quiet on the Western Front tells the gripping story of a young German soldier on the Western Front of World War I. Paul and his comrades experience first-hand how the initial euphoria of war turns into desperation and fear as they fight for their lives, and each other, in the trenches. The film from director Edward Berger is based on the world renowned bestseller of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque.

I look forward to better understanding the plight of the black women fighting in the Kaiser's army in Flanders.

That's probably because the story is significantly better and has been successfully done in the past and 1917 was pure dogshit.

Certainly not my favorite war movie, but I wouldn’t say its dog shite. It could have been better, but far from a terrible film

Best part of 1917 was the song at the end. The storyline made no sense

I'm taking it this is a remake? I seem to remember there was a pretty popular movie based on that.

Also, I'm not sure why, but this thread has reminded me that I've never watched the movie Das Boot (though I did read the book a very long time ago). I wonder if any of the streaming services have that one in their catalog?

The original was one of the first best picture winners, there was a made for TV remake in the 70s early 80s maybe

Read a lot of Twitter reviews from people and it sounds like this film is fantastic. However, it does seem like it paints the horrors of war in an extremely accurate fashion and is a tough watch in that sense. Every comment I read basically said you will hate the concept of war after watching this movie.

Just like the Oscar-winning original from 1930.

Who doesn’t hate the concept of war?!?
War is hell. These films just reinforce that.

I read the book for summer reading before my freshman year of high school and we watched the remake at the start of the school year. It’s obviously been a long time since then but I remember really liking both, along with my classmates.

Should be one of the strongest movies of the year. Netflix has had some really high profile duds like Blonde and to an extent, the Gray Man. I watched both and thought they were very bad. However I don’t think this can be botched because the book and both movies pretty much give you the playbook.
