I do like the NFL refs response to this. They basically said they aren’t going to call it in games and will let the nfl fine the players instead
thats nice of them to say but you know what it comes down to it most, if not all, will do whatever the league tells them to.

this is going to make the nfl unwatchable. its been difficult enough the past 7 years.

it isn't like this tackle happened every game.

I don't like the rule change but it wont affect some games at all.

How long until players have to ask for consent before making a tackle?

"Takedown"

=/= “must land on legs”

Only mentions that “often times” they land on their legs. They’re banning it whether the defender lands on the legs or not.

Again, don’t be dumb.

At a certain point you just have to admit this is a violent game and injuries are going to happen. Is what it is.

It definitely is a violent game. Can you image how bad the QB play would be if we still had the rules from 1970’s? We would be on each teams 3rd or 4th QB come playoff time.

Look how many got hurt this year with these crazy rule s

Because defensive players were allowed to hit the hell out of the offense in many other ways then. Now, it's about all they've got left, so it's what they do.

The worst part of watching the NFL is having to wait 3-4 seconds after a play ends before celebrating while you wait for a flag.

This adds to that imo and I dislike it for that reason.

Sick of the nfl saying every year "we're putting an emphasis on x,y,or z and improving the game " or "the shield" talk ,BUT they refuse to fix the terrible officiating problems

What has changed in the last 15-20 years that caused this change in tackle form, I wonder?

Just about every other form of tackling.

Tackling up high now risks a foul for a blow to the head or horse collar. A run and hit at full speed that results in a hard collision risks a foul.

One of the few options left is to grab a player around their midsection, but that’s only half the process. Driving them into the ground risks a penalty, so defenders simply drop to the ground and pull the ball carrier with them.

When are the players allowed to taser an opponent to bring him down or do we go straight to flag football?

Just another rule to allow outcomes to be manipulated.

To say defensive players are mad about this is an understatement

Then you had shitty coaching and were probably taught to block the runner down. Taught that the waist goes where the body goes, wrap it then slide down.

Defenses caught up this past year and they need to give offenses and offensive coordinators another advantage. That's all this is. They need to blame all of these coaches hiring their buddies and owners hiring the "young" guy instead of qualified coaches.

Yep.

You can't hit the head, you can't Brady rule the lower half...so you're left with a baseball strike zone area of which to engage.

Hence wrap the midsection and use your weight to bring them down. There will come a time when the NFL will run out of ideas to make the game "safer".
