The NFL has banned the hip-drop tackle, source said. The Competition Committee was unanimous on it.

every year i get closer to being out. how is something thats been a part of the league for 100 years now all of a sudden a major concern? What are defenses supposed to do to tackle someone? At a certain point you just have to admit this is a violent game and injuries are going to happen. Is what it is.

It should be. It's a completely lazy tackle that can, and has, seriously injured players. This kind of tackle form wasn't all that commonplace 15-20 years

Good luck trying to enforce this. It’s too open to interpretation, just like the catch rules

Plays violent game, expects zero injuries.

I'll be honest. This might be the last straw for me, my interest has been on the edge the last couple of years anyway

funny i saw a Florio article yesterday

NFL is concerned about dip in scoring

The numbers that matter most — money and TV ratings — are up for the NFL. There’s one number that is down that the league doesn’t like.

“Statistically, what gives us concern a little bit is scoring,” Competition Committee chairman Rich McKay said during a Thursday conference call. “Scoring this year at 43.5 is still above an historical marker, which has kind of been that 43 mark. But we were at 49 points per game during COVID [in 2020], and we went to 45 [in 2021], we went to 43.76 [in 2022], and now we’re down to 43.54.”

McKay believes the proposed change to the kickoff will impact field position by 3-5 yards per drive, which will lead to more scoring. (He spoke of the revised kickoff as a done deal, and maybe it will be if the owners think it will result in more points.)

Funny since the players associate was the one that opposed it

Is this a hip drop tackle? A famous tackle in the biggest game of the season. I can't imagine the controversy.

The smaller defensive players need this tackle in their arsenal in order to be effective tacklers. Taking that away from them means a defense is going have to choose between a bigger player who is a competent tackler but likely vulnerable to speed or a faster guy who is likely vulnerable to get ran over.

How are you supposed to tackle someone from behind now?

Except that its an extremely common tackle in rugby which rarely results in injury.

But what do they guys playing without pads know about injury prevention right?
