Allen risked a career ending type injury by continuing to play, and played extremely well even though the pain tolerance would have been too much for almost anyone else

I think that kinda shows a tiny weee bit of “doing anything it takes”

I’ve already said that I agree with that. All I did in response was to try to separate that desire from the same desire paired with the physical incapability of actually doing it.

Can we agree that a coach is not going to put a quarterback who can only throw the ball five yards on the field, no matter how much that quarterback “wants it”? That was the only point I was making, and it was based off of your own comment.

No I wont agree with that for back in the day

Here is old arse busted dick Butkus still playing and his bum knee arse could barely move. It looks ridiculous

He is literally stiff knee running around the field at like a 6 second 40 speed

Archie manning played with a full arm cast against LSU while he was absolute shite because of it

They used to put busted arse injured starters in all the time because depth and overall quality was such shite compared to today

No one wanted to call these guys selfish back then for playing hurt, knowing that a 100% backup would be better

How many fans would want to keep this loyal, battle-hardened warrior the next year if the team could cut his arse and get someone a little better? Fan loyalty stops the moment Tommy Touchdown is no longer the best option.

It’s easy for fans and coaches to preach about team success because that’s what they care about. But players are trying to make as many millions as they can while still being able to walk without a limp and spell their name when they’re 50.

It’s a job to these guys.

All of us would rather make $200,000 working for a company that ends up #2 in profits than make $100,000 working for #1. Company success isn’t as important to the Average Joe as his income and well being. Why should pro athletes be any different?

So, you think a coach is going to put a quarterback out there who can’t throw the ball five yards simply because he’s drying to win?

The Broncos won a Super Bowl doing this with Manning

Yes, he was limited, but he was still physically capable. Five yards?

Dude, Baker Mayfield is that guy. There are several out there as well
Baker is willing to push himself and run around, just long enough to fumble the ball, or throw one of the dumbest interceptions you've ever witnessed. He will fight to lead his team to.500 or more likely just below.500. like no man in the history of the NFL.

A lot more factors go into it than that…

Some want to play in a certain city, or for a certain coach. Some want a chance at a ring over a little extra $$$$$. Some want a starting role over extra $$$$. Some would rather an extra year on the contract.

Factors outside of money rarely matter much to players until they are satisfied with money.

People care more about their own well being than the company they work for. Doesn’t matter if it’s Pep Boys or the Dallas Cowboys.

Drew Brees threw his own grandfather’s legacy away to appease some of his teammates who hate the very country they are citizens of. That’s dedication.

A whole lot. These athletes didn't go anywhere. They can be found in every sport still.

Pretty much all of the NHL guys. Read up on some injuries reported after teams get knocked out of the playoffs. It’s always just lower-body or upper-body injury in the in-season reports, but these guys are basically falling apart and still giving it a run in the playoffs.

I’ve said this before, but I’ll repeat it here:

I think for many athletes, winning and losing doesn’t matter as much as securing the contract. It starts in youth sports. The emphasis is on personal expression, which morphs into brand. It’s all about getting into that D1 school and getting your NIL bag. Then, the goal is to go pro and get that contract. The final hurdle seems to be that extension. I see this most in football. There’s no real loyalty. Once you get that extension, you coast and stay healthy.

Unfortunately, I’m a Cowboys fan, and you cannot convince me that Dak really gives a shite about winning a Super Bowl.

Mike Evans just had a great game against a hated rival while playing with 2 broken ribs.

He also punked the DB.

In MNF last night, the RB for the Bills who fumbled in OT looked absolutely devastated on the sideline as the Rans drove down the field for the win. You could tell it meant something to him. When the Bills blocked the FG, that guy was so relieved.

I’m not saying everyone is like this, but I think it’s a shitload. You see the attitudes they have in HS and college. It’s all about the money.
