How many elite, dying to win, anything for the team players still exist in pro sports?

You know the type of guy I’m talking about, the lay it all on the line willing to do anything to win a game type guy.
The best players used to be those guys, they did anything to beat you and were relentless to a point where it could be a problem. Michael Jordan, Kobe, Drew Brees, Larry Bird, lots of others.
Seems like now these guys are all friends, they’re so rich and they change teams so often, how many of them actually care about winning games? The really elite players all have grown up playing for 3-4 different clubs, probably transferred high schools at least once, college maybe more than once, and was told from a young age that their stats are what is most important in a game.
The way the system is set up now, it’s almost teaching the best athletes from a young age that winning and being a part of a team is not important, so then they get to the pros and all of a sudden they’re expected to love their team and their franchise?
I think it’s a real problem that is going to continue to degrade professional and college athletics

Dude college QBs are making 8 figures.
they’ve already won at life. Who is angry when you’re hooking up with 10s nightly and have millions on your bank account as a teenager.
Honestly the most “frick you” attitude I’ve seen sports over the last few years was the Argentina national team in the World Cup. They acted like a bunch of c unts but still almost won it again. They mocked other teams, went hard, even went dirty. They also didn’t apologize for acting like it.
I hated them but it was kind of refreshing to see.

Yea it’s great for them but not great for those of us who like to watch them play

This is so dumb. Josh Allen played almost an entire season with a UCL test to his throwing elbow
A lot of those old QBs with all their grit couldn’t throw it more than 5 yards with that

I don’t think he’s asking about their physical capabilities to play through injury.

Dude, Baker Mayfield is that guy. There are several out there as well

So, you think a coach is going to put a quarterback out there who can’t throw the ball five yards simply because he’s drying to win? No. The Bills wouldn’t have played Allen if that’s all he was physically capable of doing.

It’s really weird you think this is a mentality problem with the athletes.

This is what you do when you can’t support an argument. The thread is about the desire to win and lay it on the line for your team. It’s not about the physical capability to do so.
He said that Allen demonstrated that desire by playing through a UCL tear. I agree, but he was obviously able to physically do it. He, not me, said that those older quarterbacks couldn’t throw a ball five yards with that injury. That removes the physical capability of playing the position, no matter how badly you want it for your team.
You are pitiful. Now, just call me some names and insult me.

His point is there are guys that have hung it up for the year for less, pointing to Allen’s “want to”
This isn’t that fricking hard, yet you make it totally about something it is not… because you are a dumb person

Apparently it is that “fricking hard” for you because you are the one making it about something it’s not.
Go back and read through the posts. Do it slowly. Take all the time you need.

Allen risked a career ending type injury by continuing to play, and played extremely well even though the pain tolerance would have been too much for almost anyone else
I think that kinda shows a tiny weee bit of “doing anything it takes”
And Allen isn’t alone. Every week every single team has multiple players risking it by playing through injuries.
