To me retiring numbers in college sends a bad message. It’s saying players are bigger than the LSU brand, and it shouldn’t be that way

LSU has teams, individual players can be honored without retiring numbers. If you want to be offended, you will never have a shortage of things to complain about.

The LSU brand gave its three Heisman Trophy winners the opportunity to gain national recognition and succeed at the next level and become wealthy in the process. Think of the resources LSU expended on all three of those guys to get them where they were.

If Joe Burrow and Jaden Daniels and for that matter Billy Cannon truly had LSU’s best interest at heart, and wanted to continue to support the team after their playing days are over, why should they have any problem with the team re-issuing their old number?

Especially with these kids these days, when they are perfectly willing to go somewhere else just because they don’t get their way about the damn number on their jersey.

DJ Pickett can help LSU win games in the next few years. Jaden Daniels will not win any more games for LSU.

This is just pure bitch selfishness from JD. He is only thinking of himself.

Joe Burrow some day will walk out in Tiger Stadium to a reception unmatched in sports. JD will never have his moment now.

Doesn’t matter. Your school is shitting on the legacy of a heisman trophy winner in order to satisfy some brat, give him his wittle number that him has always had, and to keep him out of the transfer portal.

Don’t get me wrong. I love it. As a fan of a rival school, I absolutely love this. It’s a shite move from LSU and will have 5*’s second guessing wanting to play for a trash program that would do this type of thing

I think that the timing of this is critical. It was promised BEFORE JD won the Heisman. Honoring the promise is the right thing to do. The fact that it doesn’t violate the policy issued in 2007 should not be left out of the analysis.

So you’re saying he was promised it as a sophomore/junior and not after? That sounds suspicious.

Burreaux's number deserves to be retired. He was the QB on arguably the best football team ever. He won every award for a QB possible: Heisman, Maxwell, Davey O'brien, and Davey award. He won the SEC Championship game and went on to win the National title. The offense scored 23 points in 1 SEC game other than that they scored at least 36 points. And from the SEC Championship game forward no less than 37. JD5 won the Heisman, which is a great accomplishment but he falls short of Burrow by a mile.

That was my take. The current staff honors a commitment made to a player, not intentionally lie to them to get their signature, then pull the rug out from under them.

Just makes you think about #7 and #18 and how those jerseys have been made a compliment to Peterson and Mauck for their abilities and work ethics

Your opinion doesn't matter because that's not official school policy.

His No. 9 shouldn’t just be retired; it should be under glass with 24/7 armed security like the Mona Lisa in the Louvre.

His bust should look like Mona Lisa the way he dresses
