You can have multiple numbers, just not on the field at the same time obviously

This wouldn’t be such a problem if LSU wouldn’t wait so long to honor former players. Hilliard, Burrow, Daniels, Dorsey.Faulk, Peterson, Honey Badger, and those are just the ones I can think of. All of them should already have their name in the stadium like the ones already there, but re issue the numbers to current players.

You can still wear 18 and 7, nobody won a Heisman wearing those numbers

What about Wendell Davis or Harvey Williams. Bradie James etc.

I said those are the ones I could think of. You are correct. There are quite a few missing

LSU generally waits until the player has not only retired from football but from their post-football career as well.

Bert jones played in the 70’s. It shouldn’t have taken LSU this long to retire his jersey.

How many non quarterbacks can you think of that wear 9?
Ego Ferguson played DL and wore #9

JD wore the Guice jersey and completely flipped it

quote:It depends on the person who made the promise, big dog. Lane Kiffin is responsible to his players and winning. Lane has honored a promise that was allegedly made to a current player. A former player isn't and shouldn't be a concern of his. Anyway, doesn't these things go higher than the coaches?
I think that the timing of this is critical. It was promised BEFORE JD won the Heisman. Honoring the promise is the right thing to do. The fact that it doesn’t violate the policy issued in 2007 should not be left out of the analysis.

Stupid is as stupid does. LOL

If a great young QB will come to LSU and wants #9 LSU should give it to him. Joe Burrow's legacy is forever cemented no matter who wears what number.

If anyone has the stones to wear #9, let 'em. LSU does not retire numbers, and the best way to have this Jayden situation blow over is to not change the policy over Jayden and his mama. The fans won't like it though, so that's on the player. A punter wore Tebow's number at UF last year. Build Joe a statue, put his name up in DV, and rename Nicholson Drive to Joe Burreaux Drive.

do you think yhat if a 5 star recruit requested #9 the coaching staff would deny it…
Maybe, yes.
Previous staff promised 5 though, and now we are here.

Funny, I remember 10 was Burrow's beloved number when he got here but it was taken.

Have another downvote.
Joe Burrow wasn’t the only #9 on the same team. That other player was safety Marcel Brooks.
Also on that team was safety Grant Delpit, who wore #9 and gave it up when he switched to #7, making #9 available for…Joe Burrow.
Every LSU fan also remembers wide receivers Devery Henderson and Early Doucet.
We could just go back in history and find a ridiculous amount of players that demonstrate the opposite of what you claim.

Just left a restaurant where they had a Joe Burreaux LSU #9 jersey in frame on the wall. Come to think of it i have seen this several times in other bars and restaurants. Not an issue at all with Joe or LSU. Has anyone ever seen a Daniels #5 jersey displayed on bar or restaurant?
