I’m curious who the “they” is exactly. Coach O? Scott Woodward?

I highly doubt he’s talking about O

Well the second part is kinda important:
“But, ya know, stuff happens”

Meaning he prolly wouldn’t be all that distraught about it.

….”but you never know, you never know what happens”

Kinda sounds like he wouldn’t throw a tamper tantrum.

And that’s why he’s tGOAT

I think the common courtesy would be to wait until everyone from that team is off the roster, then reassign it

Maybe that’s just me though. I think that’s the right way to handle it

Yep. This Daniels thing is about Burrow’s #9 not being used. JD feels slighted bc his number was given out and nobody wears Burrow’s.

Even Flynn is on the side of Daniels

Stop. That’s apples and oranges. Joey B was the greatest QB in LSU history—a Heisman Trophy winner who led us to a 15–0 National Championship. His No. 9 shouldn’t just be retired; it should be under glass with 24/7 armed security like the Mona Lisa in the Louvre.

A change in a coach , athletic director changes everything on top of what was accomplished individually but most importantly as a team.

If the reporter really cared they would’ve asked this as well

And Flynn would be fricking wrong then.

Burrow’s number is pretty exclusively a quarterback number. Daniels’s number could be used by multiple skill position groups. And was promised to a recruit anyway.

I think that the timing of this is critical. It was promised BEFORE JD won the Heisman. Honoring the promise is the right thing to do. The fact that it doesn’t violate the policy issued in 2007 should not be left out of the analysis.

If it were the #1 incoming freshman QB who wanted to wear it, I bet nobody on here would have a problem lol. To me retiring numbers in college sends a bad message. It’s saying players are bigger than the LSU brand, and it shouldn’t be that way
