Yes. Really they’re based on needs or means. However, there are outside scholarships based on academics and other factors.
Admittedly, I don’t know how much money his family was making, but grants aren’t necessarily needs based.
Believe me, there are ways to do it that don’t require you to get into debt if you want to do there. Especially if he’s smart enough to get in.
It’s about what is important to the person. (Personally, for an undergraduate degree, I’d go to a prestigious state school if I had been in his shoes)
Yeah. I like Scotcho’s depth charts and was disappointed that he stopped doing them after the Florida game.
But I’ve seen lots of different depth charts on different websites and remember some of the reports coming out of Spring and Fall practices. Therefore, I like to look at depth charts before the season begins. That usually shows where the players were getting the most looks as far as position, even though it can change during the season.

I know Ory has been listed at RT in the majority of the depth charts I’ve seen. I believe that’s probably based on the relative athleticism compared to other tackles. Looks like the coaches have confidence in his abilities at LT.
On some websites, Curne is listed as backup at the start of the season at both LT and RT.

Also was Davis injured vs Bama or just benched?

Honestly, I don’t remember.

As far as Curne goes, I believe he was originally supposed to be a guard, but he has tremendous athleticism so they used him at tackle

Was he always at RT

He’s always been an OT. I believe that he’s always been projected as a RT from out of high school to every depth chart I’ve seen in his 2 years at LSU

Maybe he wasn't able to get up to speed mentally or physically yet. If he hasn't played, I'll take the coach's opinion that sees them practice everyday.

I agree as to your second sentence. Since I’m not at practice, I can’t weigh in on that.
As to the first, he must’ve come up to speed recently I guess.

As to the whole, I think this may be a further indictment on Brad Davis’s performance. Not only is his coaching ability suspect, but his personnel decisions are questionable as well

So is Davis, Curne and some others who received more PT

too small to be an every down edge.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but in today’s game are there really “every down edges?” Seems like there’s a lot of situational types of players.

This is more a general observation or opinion than a comment on this player in particular
Makes you wonder why he hasn’t received any PT

Harvard does not offer athletic scholarships, are you saying his family finances were such that he qualified for 100% financial aid ?

Have you heard of Academic scholarships?

I would argue that most coordinators would be a reach. At the most, they shouldn’t move the needle until tested if one was hired

As an opposing fan, I wouldn’t want to see Dillingham, Freeman, Grubb, or Shanahan at LSU.

What’s your reasoning for that?

They usually start out as GAs at their Alma Maters, so it’s kinda the same

Coaching Trees

This seemed to be a common hiring pattern pre-NIL. Are they as important in this post NIL world?
With some of the names being floated on here, especially those from G5 schools and even the OC at Oregon I decided to look.

From what I can find none of them come from the “prominent” coaching trees from the past. The Saban age coaches came from Holtz, Woody Hayes, Bear Bryant, Bo at Michigan, and a few others.
Newer coaching trees include Saban, Kirby (even though he’s technically Saban tree) and maybe a couple of others to a lesser degree.

It was generally the norm to go after coaches who were taught by big successful coaches, especially since it was all but impossible to poach those big names.

In today’s game, is it as important or are there things more important, especially when hiring a coach who is currently a head coach.

That’s funny. Another medical condition tied to the name of a LSU quarterback. The surgery for the abdominal injury Myles Brennan suffered was named after him. That’s how obscure it was

I remember Josh Booth.

And his brother Abram Booth (sic). Don't forget him.

And John Wilkes Booth
Yeah. I see what you’re saying. I just don’t think that every dual threat running back is the same.
LSU seems to have more trouble with smaller, shiftier QB’s, whereas larger ones have more difficulty against Baker’s defenses, with the exception of Milroe last year. Sellers and Green - not so much.

BTW: even though Green averaged 3.9 ypc last year, he was held to -10 rushing yards against LSU. If LSU can stay disciplined like last year and not allow explosive plays, the defense will be fine IMO
quote:

Where did that go? Why does he look not only worse than last year, but hes not even a gunslinger? I mean, hes throwing check downs ON EVERY SINGLE PLAY. He's avoiding guys WIDE open, he refuses to do the basics like, stepping up into the pocket making our offensive line looking even worse, and he STILL refuses to run and take easy yards.

IMO, it’s a mental issue. Call it “gun shy,” “indecisive,” “afraid,” lingering issues from an injury . . . it’s basically the “yips”.
Only he can fix it and I don’t think he knows how. As a former QB, unless and until he gets it figured out, he needs to take some time to figure it out away from the field and the noise

Ehhhh we spent a lot of money on the d line and we have gotten gashed containing qbs…

He coaches interior lineman. I would hazard a guess that most of the breakdowns come from outside contain
