How do you break a rule that didn’t exist when you are accused of breaking it?

Yeah. College football coaches are prohibited by law from communicating with NFL players.

Why exactly would it be an issue that Kiffin remained in contact with players no longer under the NCAA or SEC's purview?

Why would it matter? At the time there were no rules about it. The only rule was that there was now a 5 for 5.

There is no rule against contacting professional athletes to play in college because there was no rule against professional athletes playing in college... until a week ago.

There were no rules prohibiting attempting to roster pro players (and pro players were not even defined) until after the LA state court ruling last week.

As far as telling an ineligible player that if they get an injunction declaring them eligible there’s a spot for them, that’s been the MO of every school in the country the last four years.

Wait til you hear what Will Wade has been doing.

What is the rule that LSU violated?

Nothing burger. Aggie, horn, and bama have all recruited and rostered pros. Just pull all the other members in a counter suit and subpoena their recruiting comms for their players.

LSU is kind of fricked (as it relates to these two players) no matter what happens.

If the conference wins today, then that is it and probably the best case scenario.

If LSU wins, the SEC has the chance to appeal to the First Circuit (and then LASC) to try and reverese the preliminary injunction...and will still have the merits case for a permanent injunction. Playing those guys with appeals pending is risky--the SEC has already said that it will bring the hammer retroactively if a higher court overrules Jorden down the road if these guys are rostered.

I don't understand why these two are worth any of the drama, or any of the risk involved in having them.

How idiotic. It's his first amendment right to speak to whoever the hell he wants. There is no rule that says he can't do what they're accusing him of, even if he did it or not.

You mean the players that reached out to teams in multiple states that have ongoing lawsuits?

Hearing Sankey will storm the field and perform a citizens arrest on Kiffin as the team runs out of the tunnel. The talking heads in the media will say it was a stunning and brave act.

You’re an idiot if you believe Kiffin did that
