I say yes. I think the Olympics is where we come together to compete across all nations. There’s plenty of nations present who are not innocent. I say this as someone who sees Russia as a major enemy of the United States, but I would prefer to whip their arse in the Olympics rather than banishing them altogether.

Ultimately I’d rather compete against them and assert some further dominance.

Yes, the nato expansionists are equally responsible for this mess.

I thought they were suspended for doping?

If it's for Ukraine it's BS. Especially with all the other aggressor countries allowed at the Olympics.

No. They are international pariahs and the demon spawn of Mongols. When they learn to act like humans, they can do things with other humans.

Which sovereign country are we currently invading? Where did we starve four million people to death?

Yes. Keep politics out of sports. Having a little beef between competitors makes the events more interesting anyway.

Yes. What does a pole vaulter, wrestler, or jumper have to do with sending in tanks? Did Michael Phelps have anything to do with invading Iraq or Afghanistan?

It’s also money russia can’t spend on their war effort or a soldier they can’t send to the Ukraine.

Yes, with the notable requirement that they have to allow a multi-party investigation of their doping program and gut anyone and everyone remotely linked to it from their international athletics programs. State-sanctioned doping is a scar on humanity. If / when the PRC eventually gets caught, they should have to face the same.

Honestly, it probably hurt the U.S. not having Russia there. With the exception of women's gymnastics, Russia really wouldn't have been competing with us for a lot of the golds that we won. They would have knocked off a shite load more Chinese golds than they would have taken from us.

No. They started a war which goes completely contrary to the Olympic Charter.

However, I do think their athletes should be allowed to compete under the Olympic flag.

I'm pretty sure we participated after invading and occupying both Iraq and Afganistan, and unlike the Russia/Ukraine situation, we didn't even have a possible "danger at our borders" situation. We just didn't like who was running those countries, so we kicked the frick out of them. [quote]

There are 14 downvotes and upvotes and I’m happy to break the tie.

Russia sucks. Putin is a dictator. The invasion is not justified.

But the west has been unnecessarily antagonistic for 20+ years towards Russia. They finally acted like what we’ve treated them as since the end of the cold war and then we’re shocked.

Meanwhile, we’ve extrajudicially killed thousands without a declaration of war for 20+ years.

NO!!!

Russia invaded a sovereign nation and chose not to be a part of the civilized world.

They made their choice.

Correct. They are not there because of war, they are not there because of epic cheating through doping.
