I just hate the idea that guys HAVE to play because money and draft capital is invested in them…

Yesterday's game was the first one I watched in years. Here is what I didn't understand...

Early in the game (and later on), the Pats had great success when QB was under center and they ran the ball. Seemed like they would get 3-4 yards a pop. Then, on second and third down, they would throw and it was a disaster.

Multiple possessions went this exact way...OR...

Throw on first down. INC

Second down: 7 yard run

Third down: INC or sack or INT

Just stupid. There was even a series where they got 8 on first down and then threw it twice for nothing and had to punt.

The play calling was horrific, but then again, the NFL is a shite product anyway.

Agreed on both accounts. Patriots looked terrible on offense. Almost like they've never played together or the coaches don't know how to make adjustments and just run the same plays every game. I think this may reflect some on Drake Maye's ability to make pre snap reads and adjustments including adjusting the pass protection.

Yes, Campbell was beat several times, but not all of them were his fault. Some were defensive scheme related where Maye needed to adjust protection, some were bad QB pocket presence, and one was the guard knocking the defender off Campbell's block.

I really don't remember a designed QB/RB draw at Campbell's Man, or a screen behind Campbell's assignment or even many runs at Campbell's man to force him to hold the edge. They were running Treyveon Henderson and Rhamondre Stevenson right up the middle most times (maybe a few outside runs to the opposite side), but they couldn't seem to coordinate plays to get their athletes the ball in space quickly. Everything seemed old school run up the middle and slow developing pocket passes.

Yes there is. Putting a chip in literally helps a guy not get pushed over as it helps a guy get more time to set feet etc.. They could have literally double teamed the edge with Campbell, but that means you have less guys out in routes and the defense can cover those fewer guys up.

There are ways to help an OT getting destroyed but they lead to other problems. You can throw the ball quick but then you are going to have problems sustaining drives or moving the ball downfield, you can roll out but that hurts the route tree, you can leave a RB in with a TE to chip but then you may only have 2-3 routes on pass plays.

Gruden can be smart but saying there is no way to help when there are clear ways to help is just wrong

We are getting downvoted for this observation, but it was correct.

I remember at one point NE barely had 70 yards of offense, and 50 of it was rushing. They showed that stat. NE promptly got the ball, threw three straight passes: INC, sack, INC punt. LOLOLOL

McDaniels called a horrific game.

Barely any screens or run plays after the 1st qtr. They basically went to a deep drop back game and just allowed Seattle to tee off on almost every down.

They were only down 9-0 for most of the game. One TD gets them right back in the game, but they acted like there down 30 trying to hit home run balls every play.

Your LT and QB were tremendously rattled. Why not put a FB in the game and go heavy and try to stop Seattle from calling the same blitz over and over over that got home every time.

Maybe McDaniels always called those types of plays but Brady alway audibled out of them, which was likely the case. But Maye seems incapable so far of doing anything like that. The play gets called. He runs it. That's it.

And it was a terrible choice of calls last night. Also the personnell difference in the lines was like an old BCS Title game where the SEC played Oregon or Ohio State and manhandled them at the point of attack.

Gruden talked about it this morning. There is no help to give to an OT getting blown backwards.

He said you can bring TE help to chip etc when a guy is getting beat inside or around the edge, but when you simply just get pushed over their isn’t any help to give

except he wasn't getting bull rushed on every play. That happened a minimal amount of times. The majority of the rushes on Maye were avoidable if they even TRIED to help the OL. And that includes helping the interior.

I've yet to see one single play where a TE or RB even attempted to chip someone to help. Put a RB in and make him fricking stand between the LG and LT to help protect your QB. For frick's sake, move the pocket to the right. Call a fricking 5 yard pass. Throw a screen pass.

Nah, we're gonna keep sending 5 guys out on routes 20+ yards every fricking play and leave our OL out on an island and not even try to change our gameplan.

The guy is 50 lbs overweight and appears to have no power in his legs. What did the NFL see in him to draft him 4th?? He also appears to be a real dickhead. He may be a good guy but after following him for five years I am left to believe he is not

The Patriots, not the NFL.

Rex Ryan brutal to Will Campbell.

"They need to move him back to center or something. Short arm, T-Rex kid couldn't block me. And I've been seeing it for a month."

5 star that played like a 2 star. He got PT based on his HS ranking at LSU. And he’s getting PT for the Patriots based on where he was drafted.

He must be great at fooling evaluators bc the tape certainly doesn’t lie

If he were from any other school, this board would be clowning him regardless of injury, experience, etc.
But bc he’s an LSU player, they make a list of excuses a mile long for him sucking arse.
