DeBoer is a very good coach but he’s not a good recruiter. Having a QB like Penix helps as well playing in a very easy conference.

It’ll really come down to can he keep up recruiting in the SEC. Players weren’t going to Bama because it’s Bama. They were going there for Saban and what he could do do for them and their future.

Saban is the greatest of all time. DeBoer has sky high expectations and must be competing for championships immediately. We’ll see if he can live up to that.

Meh. Its definitely possible that he may not be successful. The days of getting every top player to go there just because its "bama" are over. They went there to play under saban and get drafted high.

Having a recruiting class ranked 36th, 26th, and 95th aint gonna cut it in the SEC.

One of saban’s greatest accomplishments at Bama was being able keep all of the cooks out of his kitchen. Is DeBoer going to be able have that same amount of credibility? Gonna be interesting.

He seems like a good coach but there’s a lot more to it than just that.

His staff hires will be really interesting, if he just basically brings his entire UW staff I’d have some concerns as a Bama fan

Extremely impressive job by the Bama AD. It's been a couple days? Ink still warm in Saban's retirement letter and they snipe a coach who just went to the Natty. Those frickers are on top of things

And three NFL receivers.

None of whom were recruited by DeBoer.

*The guy that recruited them all is now at Oregon.

What a pressure cooker of expectations ... With Saban having an office next door. LOL.. He will get paid though..

Well he won’t lack QBs at Bama

Phil Bengston while Lombardi was still in his office as GM.

Does this mean he will be born on Third Base or Home Plate?

This is what strikes me the most. DeBoer's a damn good coach, and the whole 'he can't recruit in the south' thing some are tossing around isn't necessarily a given (see BK for an example of that). But does DeBoer have what it takes to control booster interference and deal with the politics that goes with certain tiers of schools in the SEC? That's one of the biggest questions, IMO. The next few years will be interesting for sure.

BAMA must have put up quite an offer if DeBoer turned down $8.4 million to stay at UW.

F**k. I was hoping that they would hire James Franklin or better yet Bill Obrien.

They understand it will be different. A Bama fan told me they are going to have to realistically lower their expectations from winning the Natty every year to just making the playoffs every year
