If Saban does hang around, I bet the majority of his time will be dealing with all this bullshite so DeBoer doesn't have to. He'll wrangle the boosters and allow DeBoer to focus as much on just coaching as he possibly can. At least until he's got a handle on it and has made the program his own.

But that's all the shite Saban actually hates

You're fricking insane. It's a grand slam hire.

Why? I mean, he's obviously a good coach (not as good as Saban) but the biggest question mark is recruiting against other SEC coaches.

He's been successful everywhere he has been. Hell, the loss in the NC game snapped a 21 game winning streak for him at Washington

watching sports center, he says he likely takes Bama job. Well someone else reporting he has said this.

The Washington side leaked that their talks with DeBoer fell through, so they know he's gone.

Yeah I don’t think many think he’s going to flat line Alabama but I’m not confident he’s a guy that’ll maintain their status as title contenders every year. They played in a lot of close games this year against lesser opponents.

He could also have two great years and then start to have diminished production wherein he’s canned after year five. The latter is the most predictable expectation.

This is what I see happening.

Top ten (fifteen?) recruiting classes versus the normal #1 or #2 will be his downfall.

I just do not know about that fit at Bama.

This whole talk of "fit" is so silly. Was Saban a good fit at LSU, or Bama? Was Kelly a good fit at LSU? Football isn't complicated. If you can coach, you can coach.

The counter to that is the guy can't lose with 30+ ranked recruiting classes. What's he gonna do with top 10? (anyone thinking Bama isn't going to recruit at a high level is crazy)

What if I told you the guy who would replace Nick Saban at Alabama was Indiana's offensive coordinator five years ago?

Dude, they will fill the staff with southern guys who can recruit.

I would be surprised if DeBoer recruits as well as Saban even with a "southern" staff. Saban was just relentless in recruiting and had that special talent of closing the deal.

I think he’ll do fine his first couple of years. But it’s very difficult to maintain a championship level for five plus years. Even Saban has said that. Bama fans will have no tolerance when he has his first 9-4 season. Deboer has no track record of maintaining success at this level. Maybe he can do it. Maybe he can’t.

Hes not had to maintain a culture for the long haul
To me, this would be the biggest issue.

Anyone you bring in, if you want to replicate the success he had elsewhere, you want him to bring his program system and culture in.
That's always going to be a hard sell at Alabama, where they have about 15 yrs of "the Saban Process" entrenched.

If you're asking DeBoer to start running Saban's system, there's no indication AT ALL that he even understands it, like a Saban protege would. If you're asking him to replace it with his own, there's gonna be pushback at every level, from the big money boosters on down to the waterboys. They've seen what worked, and would be resistant to change.

I've said it in another post, you either bring in a guy with enough weight and presence to clean house and get respect (ie Dabo, Kelly, Smart, Urban maybe), or you bring in a veteran coach to ride the slow decline, and once the luster is off the program you THEN reboot the system.
You CAN'T change the culture right now with a young guy. It just won't happen.

Totally agree. Saban has built a championship organization at every level of the program. Deboer has never done it. It’s not easy, which is why basically a handful of coaches are currently successful doing it. Again, maybe he can do it. But that’s the risk.

DeBoer's record as a Head Coach is 104-12.

67-3 at Sioux Falls
12-6 at Fresno State (includes 3-3 as interim coach).
25-3 at Washington

yeah, looks like a damn good coach.
