Having to address sciatica by means other than rest and over the counter meds. Have some who say a chiropractor cured their sciatica and others who said only an MD using injections and PT helped.

What has worked for y’all? Thanks.

Temporary fix but a tens unit helps with mine. Plus it’s great to have for other body pains.

Chiro and PT. Fix the root of the problem, don’t put a bandaid over it.

I agree re: Tens Unit. Bought on Amazon. Recommended to a couple of good friends and it has helped their sciatica.

Start with the least invasive and try that for a few months. If that doesn't work then move to a Neuro and MRI. Personally, after 2 back surgeries, the first of which I tried chiro and PT, and spent a lot of money on that....get the MRI and if a disc is herniated, have a Neuro fix it.

I'd say a physical therapist before anything. Sciatica can flare up from really tight muscles and low flexibility. Chiro will be a Band-Aid. You need to fix what's causing the issue. Therapy is the way to handle that. Or tons of research.

How does a neuro fix it? That's usually an ortho surgeon, unless you're talking about killing the nerve.

Find very reputable chiro. If they don't order an mri first, find another one.

Almost all neurosurgeons do spine surgery; orthopedic spine specialists do as well. Essentially, neurosurg does what ortho spine does plus brain surgery

Chiropractic can help. Just make sure you find a good one. Massage therapy can also help. PT helps some people but didn't help me at all. A doctor can prescribe steroids and muscle relaxers which will give some relief. The injections in the lower back can help a lot but God help you if you ever get one that fails. That is pain you will never forget.

I'd go MD and PT. Make sure it's actually sciatica (doctor) and then PT will help quite a bit. I have stretches I do for mine when it flares up.

Can you post some video links or describe these? My Dr. prescribed me PT the other day but I'm trying to be cheap and fix it at home first

Go to a neuro and get an MRI. Let them guide you from there. A good one will shoot you straight

Neither. Find yourself a PT with a fitness forward approach to treatment. If you don’t see a squat rack, barbells, and weights keep looking. Most people don’t understand the PT’s are actually Doctors of Physical Therapist. They should have and do have the knowledge base to help your radicular symptoms. Imaging has been proven multiple times over as being unnecessary, and surgery is rarely needed.

For those that say PT didn’t work, there’s a good chance that your PT didn’t understand the principle of loading and it effects in the body.

PT fixed mine. I would try that first. I was in pain for probably 1.5 months, which was unusual for me as the pain usually went away in a few days previously. Finally went to PT and got relief in a few weeks.
