Your old GOP is destroyed - not by Trump or by populists but by the lies and backstabbing that they engaged in for over 50 years. You're too smug and blind to see it. And yall were getting your asses kicked anyway. Imagine pining for the days of a losing opposition party.

Ah, but the GOP wasn't losing in the days of Reagan. That's the point. The GOP was winning elections by large margins and the USA was defeating your friends in the USSR. And it's rather rich to talk about the GOP of Reagan as a "losing opposition party" when the GOP of today does not control the Senate or the White House.

But you just listed RFK2 as your first choice and he ... is not any kind of Republican (or a sane human being), so that checks out.

I love the idea that creating political memes represents some kind of accomplishment or civic virtue. That's awesome.

Then why did he invade when while negotiations were still ongoing? Putin wants Ukraine’s complete surrender.

You never go into negotiations with a list of demands less than what you really want. Complete surrender was never ever one of his demands.

You should try to keep up a bit. Putin just declared yesterday that the war cannot end until Ukraine is fully "de-Nazified" and "demilitarized." He is only interested in the kind of peace that puts him fully in control of Ukraine.

What do you call removing the current government of Ukraine and dismantling the Ukrainian military?

In Kurgan, a member of the Council under the President of the Russian Federation, Khudoleev, called the elves a serious threat

quote:

Member of the Russian Presidential Council for Interethnic Relations Andrei Khudoleev expressed concern about the interest in the Elvish language among young people. According to him, this phenomenon poses a serious threat. He stated this in Kurgan at the “Multinational Youth of the Trans-Urals” forum, reports URA.RU correspondent

“In Russia, during the last population census, the “elven people” were officially recorded. A little more than 12 thousand people identified themselves as elves. According to the Constitution of the Russian Federation, nationality is defined as follows: whoever calls himself what he calls himself is who he is. I wouldn’t raise this topic, but in every city I find teachers who tell me that they have children studying the Elvish language. I haven’t played with toys since then, I consider it a serious threat,” said Khudoleev. He emphasized that Yandex Translator has a translation from Elvish, but does not have many real languages of the Russian Federation.

The fictional Elvish language was created by J. R. R. Tolkien, author of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, or There and Back Again. The language was developed as part of the writer's created world and is used in his books. He gained popularity among fans of the fantasy epic, including young Russians.

Lowest church attendance ... except for Sweden, the UK, France, Germany, Japan, China, etc. etc.?

Christian as in the country with the highest abortion rate

Yikes! That's your categorization of a good vs evil nation? Abortion rates?

So just to be clear, Russia runs at ~13 abortions per 1000 women. That's about 60% the US rate, and is less frequent than about 110 other more "evil" countries.

Is there not enough bad stuff about Russians and Putin out there already?
Why do you feel the need to make stuff up?

"Convoluted" indeed.

British Defence Intelligence
INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
UPDATE ON UKRAINE 16 December 2023

On 12 December 2023, Kyivstar, Ukraine's largest mobile network operator, suffered a cyber attack. Effects continued for at least 48 hours, impacting the company's mobile and data services. Kyivstar supplies over half of Ukraine's population with mobile and home internet services. The cyber attack reportedly left users without mobile signal or the ability to use the internet. Kyivstar reported that no personal data was compromised during the attack.

The cyber attack also reportedly disrupted air raid sirens, some banks, ATMs, and point-of-sale terminals. At the same time, the Ukrainian bank Monobank, was targeted with a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, disrupting access to the bank's website.

With Ukraine's government resources and emergency services affected, this incident is likely one of the highest-impact disruptive cyber attacks on Ukrainian networks since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion.

ISW

Key Takeaways:

German outlet BILD stated on December 14 that unspecified intelligence findings and sources indicate that Russia plans to occupy Ukrainian territory beyond the four (illegally) annexed Ukrainian oblasts throughout 2024-2026.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov threateningly urged Ukraine to negotiate with Russia sooner rather than later in framing consistent with the ISW assessment that Russia intends to achieve its maximalist objectives in Ukraine through military means.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba published an op-ed entitled “There is a Path to Victory in Ukraine” on December 15, wherein he argues that Ukrainian military objectives remain feasible despite increasingly pessimistic discussions in the West.

Russian forces conducted a series of missile and drone strikes against Ukraine on the night of December 14 to 15.

Finnish authorities closed Finland’s border checkpoints with Russia again on December 15 amid continued Russian hybrid warfare efforts to orchestrate an artificial migrant crisis.

Germany announced new military and humanitarian aid packages to Ukraine on December 14.

Russian forces continued offensive operations near Kupyansk, northeast and near Bakhmut, near Avdiivka, west and southwest of Donetsk City, in the Donetsk-Zaporizhia Oblast border area, and in western Zaporizhia Oblast and made confirmed advances in several areas.

Kremlin newswire TASS reported on December 14 that “Grom” special units (elite anti-drug special units of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs [MVD]) will fully transition to being subordinated to Rosgvardia in early 2024.

Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted Russia’s intention to build high-speed railways in occupied Ukraine, likely hours after Ukrainian partisans damaged a key railway line in occupied Zaporizhia Oblast.

NY Times says Ukraine is using "people snatchers" to fill ranks.
LINK

quote:

As Russia's war against Ukraine is set to soon enter its third year, Ukraine is getting desperate for more troops, so much so that military recruiters have confiscated people's passports and even tried to enlist a mentally disabled man, per a new report on recruiting efforts citing lawyers, activists, and other concerned civilians.

"There's lawlessness here," a 58-year-old Ukrainian taxi driver told The New York Times in a report published on Friday that details the forceful tactics Ukraine military recruiters have been reportedly taking to boost the Eastern European country's manpower in the bloody fight against Russia.

The taxi driver from the Ukrainian city of Kitsman who declined to give his name out of fear of retribution told the Times that military recruiters seized his passport and only returned it to him days later after he showed up to a medical screening.

Local residents told the new outlet that recruiters from Kitsman have gotten a reputation as "people snatchers."

Article is from Nov 2022 but it is interesting IMO

How Russian troops in Transnistria are supplied

quote:

The rotation of the Russian military in unrecognized Transnistria takes place under the guise of tourists entering Moldova through European countries. The Russian Federation does not currently supply weapons to the so-called "PMR", but they still deliver spare parts for repair and maintenance.

Military expert Oleg Zhdanov spoke about this on his YouTube channel.

"Moldova has closed its airspace. It has banned its own and, of course, Russian airlines from using the airspace of Moldova. Today, the rotation takes place under the guise of tourists, and the Russian military can arrive in Transnistria through Chisinau, through third countries," he says.

Zhdanov noted that the Russian military entered Moldova through European countries with fake passports, "legendary" documents that are made as real but issued under a different surname.

"This is how the rotation of personnel takes place. As for equipment and weapons, there is no rotation. The only thing is that spare parts are delivered there to repair and maintain equipment and weapons," he said.

According to the expert, unfortunately, it is impossible to block the transit of these spare parts completely.

“There is no transit through Ukraine today. There is no railway connection between Russia and Ukraine, it is closed. But through, say, European countries, deliveries are quite possible. Spare parts are sold not as military goods but as goods of the national economy. No one carries armored hulls and heavy machine guns, and all the rest - nuts, keys, gears, bearings, carburetors, batteries - are not 100% military goods, yes, they can be included in goods of double value, but no one will prove… Let's say they go from Novorossiysk to some the port of Crimea, or the port of Moldova on the Danube, continues to get cargo or goods to the territory of Transnistria," Zhdanov explained.

He also noted that trade and economic relations between Moldova and Russia had not been severed; there is an agreement between the countries, such as in Belarus - on friendship and cooperation with the Russian Federation.

Russia's abortion rate was the highest in the world a few years ago. Since the war started, Russia has put in place significant restrictions on abortion, as Russian officials have realized that war deaths and emigration are creating a future demographic catastrophe.

So, if someone is looking at abortion stats, it depends on the dates referenced.

Good thread from Tartarigami looking at the vehicle losses Russia has sustained around Avdiivka.

While in and of itself it is a small part of the overall war it is interesting to see Russia again expending significant resources to take a relatively small area over the winter months.

The sources are actually footnoted adjacent to the year (I mean, if we're actually reading it and stuff)
E.g.,
125. "Number of abortions in Russia 2020". Statista. Retrieved 2022-10-27.
126. "Interfax-Religion: The number of abortions has decreased in Russia over the year - Ministry of Health" www.interfax-religion.ru. Retrieved 2022-10-27.

Since identifying their shrinking population they have tightened down on legal abortions but the population statistics indicate they have either gotten a lot better at the use of contraception or the official abortion numbers might not be indicative of the actual numbers. The reported numbers show roughly a 50% drop in the last ten years where before they were the leader in per capita abortions for a long time.
