Son is off at college even in the summer. Wife and daughter are taking a trip the week of 4th of July. I think I might do something solo. I know I'll be fighting crowds due to summer, and 4th of July. I'll head over to the travel board for the details when i decide, but coming here for ideas. Budget $5,000 for Sunday, July 4th to Saturday. Could leave on the 2nd or 3rd if that makes things easier.
Current ideas
Drive the pacific coast highway, or some portion of it.
Fishing trip out west.
Pacific NW.
What would the boys of the OT do, given this opportunity?

Come down here and go hunt some gator and drive the Louisiana southern coast highway.

My wife and kids are gone?
Buy some amazing food, drink, and sit my arse at the house with the dog and live like a king.

Pacific NW.

Start at the Grand Canyon, there are so may natural parks and wonders around there you won't have enough time. Take a trip down to Hover Dam if if opens back up by then.

Call the boys.. Find a couple of bucket list golf courses in the north(since its the middle of summer) and go play, eat steak, drink bourbon and have a good time...

I hear there was a good guide for this in BR but he’s going away for a while.

Not in July dude. Besides, I'd avoid the heat like the plague. I'd vote for a cooler climate up north. Section hike part of the AT or go to the Rockies. I think a float trip on the Buffalo River or something like that would be cool too. Though anywhere in the states you'll be fighting crowds like you said.
With a budget like that and a whole week, you could go out of country. Highest cost to Europe is plane trip, but not that bad solo. Relaxing on Lake Como and riding around the Alps by train would be a pretty stellar trip. Could also go to South America as it will be winter down there.

My uncle was just up there, stayed at Crater Lake, Mt Hood highway, Columbia River Gorge, drove on Oregon Pacific coast highway, went over to Mt Saint Helens. Said scenery is beautiful.

Iceland and Ireland maybe.
This also sounds like it could be a good time to do something like Alaska on your own.

Solo with that budget? The world is your oyster.

Do something you've never convinced the wife to do, or wouldn't want to do with you. Fishing out west sounds like it'd fit the bill.
