We can all thank the USSF for keeping Gregg way longer than he should have been and totally fricking us over when we are hosting the damn World Cup. This was supposed to be the year where all our best players in probably our best generation ever were in their prime. Squandered.

Only making the R16 (which we do in EVERY WC) in a US WC is a huge letdown. We didn’t do anything we don’t do every WC.

But cue the articles that will soon come out offering the promise of the upcoming USA talent pool for the 2030 & 2034 World Cups. A true broken record.

Hope springs eternal I guess.

I don't like how now with expanded WC people are saying "Mexico won their first knockout game since the 80s"

It's elevating mediocre achievements. It's still the R16, where Mexico and the US always get eliminated anyway. Just because you won an extra game doesn't make it more impressive.

Go further in the tournament, then it's impressive.

Sure we have the most wins and goals ever scored in a WC but until we get back to the QF, it's not good enough.

we really were. We were taking over the game and our goalie acted like he had never played the game before.

I’m not one for blaming one player for a loss, but that’s about as close as it gets.

2-1 and the US had finally settled in and was creating chances only for the keeper to go full retard. That was a back breaker

Here’s what’s obvious: our best player is equivalent to belgiums 3rd or 4th best guy The talent disparity is pretty obvious

I disagree with that. We are just playing like absolute shite. Belgium is not that good. They should have lost to Senegal.

I've never understood the whole "just think if LeBron played soccer" thing. You ever noticed that the GOAT of the sport is a 5'6 dude with Asperger's?

We’ve looked so much better this half
Not really. Belgium stopped pressing and set their block much lower. They yielded the possession we had to fight for in the first half to keep things in front of them knowing we were frazzled and wouldn't be able to string enough passes to threaten

And Rudi was 100% right

Some ways to lose simply are worse to lose than others. The absolutely ridiculious ways we gave up goals tonight are inexusable.

Freese's is obvious.

But of course the first goal we had 3 players watch a ball drop in between them, drool dropping out of their mouths while a Belgian player secured the ball and crossed it in for an easy goal.

The moment was simply too big for them.

USA soccer has a pretty tough, uphill to climb to even become 1/50th of what the NBA and NFL are in America. It's not native to our country. It'll never takeover. The best athletes will never play it.

eh. That’s about what we’re good for. Until we repeal Title 9 so that NCAA universities can field men’s soccer programs , this is what we get
