Not enough to keep it from going free to play. I’d imagine it goes that route in 2 years or less
We’re getting free weekends and discounts by end of the summer. Zero question

A 60% concurrent peak drop 20 days in isn’t unique (depends on the game / genre), but when the starting launch baseline was already so poor AND the tens of millions spent for launch marketing didn’t build any post-launch interest for the game? Totally cooked

They have to pull the full F2P trigger the second they can justify it to their existing players. But the thing is by the time they actually do, the new player experience is going to be so miserable that they might as well not bother. The remaining player base they do encounter will be so sweaty and the genre is already not forgiving for casuals. It will be lukewarm installs and immediate uninstalls with no $ spent in between. Most still won’t bother to try with better existing options and it’s a niche to begin with

If the 1.2m units estimate going around is right, $40/unit net of the 30% platform take is $34m. At a combined production and marketing budget of at least $250m, yikes. The sweaty core that remains better be whales ready to spend rent money on microtransactions or this thing is over

(This thing is over, the remaining intrigue is just when Sony will accept it)

RIP Bungie

Absolutely nothing clumsy about it

Insane to include that much made up salt in the first line

AI deserves to win
That year at Texas State (true year 4) was pretty solid. But we all know WKU has such deep NIL pockets that it must have been easy to leave

How he got a 7th year for 2025 medical hardship after playing in 7 games (6 starts) and averaging nearly 30 attempts/game is certifiably insane

To choose the draft over anything else after a 6 TD / 7 INT season suggests he may be both greedy and retarded

Vegas odds spiked today for Golden FWIW. Almost 3:1 over next candidate.
Todd Golden (Florida): +300
Mark Byington (Vanderbilt): +400
TJ Otzelberger (Iowa State): +500
Nate Oats (Alabama): +600
Dusty May (Michigan): +700
Billy Donovan (Chicago Bulls): +800

Don’t know if 25% implied probability is a spike when there’s at least 6 candidates 10-25%. This is what a market should look like when no one has any idea

Unless you have more updated data
Donovan makes so much sense it hurts. He wants out of Chicago (with reason) and mutual parting is the likely end of year outcome regardless of what jobs are open

So no buyout or bidding war for a guy who left college on a run of the Elite Eight or better in 4 of his last 5 seasons. Wouldn’t have any issues adapting to NIL or coaching professional egos (his day job for the last 11 years). 2x NCAA champ with 30+ years as a college or NBA head coach with at least 10+ years in him. No one in contention will have a better resume than that. UNC is one of the very few college jobs he’d even have any business considering and doesn’t come open often. If they’re both interested it’s a no brainer. They’d be elite immediately and Duke-UNC would be must watch again

The candidate shortlists going around are almost all coaches at power (or loaded) programs. Very little doubt the SEC and B1G schools in 2026 would find the money to match whatever is thrown at Golden, Oats, or May unless UNC is so desperate they want to completely reset the market. Poaching is so much harder in basketball

Separately, if Jay Wright doesn’t throw his hat in the ring here we can finally truly believe he’s done

They got a less polarizing mayor so that's worth something.

They did alright in the 90's with the Jackson Generals, so it can be done (again).
Not sure what the Jackson mayor has to do with baseball in the region. No one’s playing in Hinds ever again

They’re realistically cooked as a minor league metro. Their last 4 seasons they were the 3rd, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st least-attended team in AA. That's not good. The inexcusable / disqualifying part is they are the affiliate of the unanimous MLB team of the region, which is a boon few minor league markets get to experience. It should have guaranteed the M-Braves solid attendance in perpetuity. There's no reason to assume another team could even equal the apathy people felt for them at the end

Maybe in a decade they can build something off 55 in Madison where more of the discretionary income is (like a northward march to Marietta 2.0) but that metro deserves a cooling off period. They didn’t take care of what they had

simply not worth the cost of flying out west and dropping $15k for terrible conditions versus either going to VT/ME/NH
To assume Western conditions will be this horrible with Eastern conditions this respectable again is a hell of a bet to make. Order will be restored. And the consumer conditioning is realistically too strong for Vail or Alterra to be panicking

The independent East coast resorts will forever be hanging on a thread

They are starting to price people out of skiing at the mega resorts
But the pass price increase has consistently offset the fall in volume and their revenue hasn’t cratered. It’s been pretty sticky. It’s a hobby that already leans rich. Do not underestimate the number of people with money who will keep absorbing increases to do favored activities

- Posted shirtless from Beaver Creek which is a sad, sad sight

(Both the conditions and me shirtless)

Their place and deserve to represent in the Olympics
I don’t believe qualifying occurred today. I think it was just some NFL (and non-NFL) players rolled up in the doldrums of their offseason to try out a sport (at low effort) they hadn’t played before at a competitive level. Against competition who’d done this for years with massive chips on their shoulders

The team with a 48 year-old QB, a retired TE, Damar Hamlin, and a boxer came up 10 points short in a championship game. Not too bad

Not a great day for Burrow’s team but Odell, Luke Kuechly, Logan Paul, and a YouTuber gave it their all

It will be an NFL roster (reality, and because it’s the league who’s responsible for it being in the Olympics) and they’ll throw a bone to one of the existing team members

The only allure is how they’re going to decide which NFL players make it
If anything it’s a wake-up call that the NFL players can’t half arse it to earn the bid
quote:

Is the NFL running it and going to force franchises to allow some legit stars to play?
The NFL is the entity most responsible for it being in the Olympics and the owners already approved player attendance

They're also better prepared and more skilled at the unique abilities one needs to be successful at flag footbal
Margins are way too close against NFL players half assing it in the dead of the offseason with no practice

Very little doubt the 10-man Olympic roster will be NFL players. It’s just a question of how many token picks

The draft is expected to draw 500,000 to 700,000 visitors, according to regional officials.
That entire region has less than 40,000 hotel rooms

Need new regional officials

This is valid
It should be next to impossible for a baseball AD to botch a baseball hire so badly, but here we are

If you ignore CAF corruption and the AFCON competition rulebook entirely, proper application of the global Laws of the Game also results in a Senegal L

- Leaving the field of play without referee permission is 1 of the 7 yellow card offenses
- All 11 Senegalese players receive yellows
- 3 Senegalese players already sitting on yellows are given a second and sent off
- 8 man Senegal is trounced in ET

That outcome is almost definitional. You're kind of projecting retardation here

2. Every country (USA) needs to be 100% invested in competing.
quote:

3. It needs to be moved to late fall or mid winter and adopt a longer, more serious tournament format.
The more serious we are the less meaningful of a competition it becomes. And a longer competition will become very boring watching our superior depth dominate shite in 3-game series with less opportunity for upsets. Best on best would see the US and Japan in most every final as they are by far the deepest squads. I have no interest in watching a sweatier longer tournament outside of the championship. There may be some allure in that game / series but the tournament as a whole would be as underwhelming as watching 95% of Olympic basketball

You don’t actually want the serious tournament you think you do. The restrictions and opt-outs at least make it more of an even playing field and not a borefest
quote:

1. MLB needs to remove its influence (I know they created the thing, but they’re harming the product with restrictions)
I believe you’re confused as to what the product is. The product isn’t the WBC. That’s the sales channel. The product is MLB / baseball as a whole to international markets

We’re the least relevant market. Worst case we stop following the event…in which case so what, it’s already not well watched or attended here. The goal of the tournament isn’t to have a best on best competition. It’s to leverage a few games watched by an international fan every 3 years into years or a lifetime of MLB fandom. When there’s more parity and that stops being the goal, then there’s room to contemplate a more serious tournament. But that’s not for a while
