Why do people that buy into conspiracy theories
Because there's an inverse relationship between IQ and belief in conspiracy theories.

Same thing would be happening with liberals if Trump was thriving.
Well ya, it's called the Steel dossier, Russian collusion, and the impeachment hearings over absolutely nothing.

As far as conspiracy theories go, celebrities being involved in pedophilia is not that far out there.

Also, this thread's title has the cause and effect backwards. Try switching them, and it'll answer itself.

I hope the lack of a comma was intentional.

Because our elites blatantly lie to us.
Posted on 8/4/20 at 9:26 am to mouton
Our world makes zero sense right now, and everyone can tell. What our government does, what i tells us, what our media reports is so obviously full of easily refutable lies that they’re not even trying to pretend are objective anymore. Every institution seems tainted, deligitimate, and actively involved in gas-lighting the public consciousness, essentially telling everyone to ignore their own lying eyes and believe things that simply make zero logical sense with no consistency.
In a world where nothing makes any goddamn sense, people are starving for anything that could explain things, so they cling to theories that feel plausible because even crazy shite like lizard people and tom hanks as a pedophile cannibal makes more sense than our whole world being locked down over a virus with sub 1% mortality rate that most people don’t even know they have.

I thought this was going to be about Russian collusion.

Somebody has to vote for Trump.

this is all true
also, the various governments ruling over us have basically admitted to lying to us in March but request that we believe everything they say now without question, even though it appears they still have no plan and the 2nd plan (1st was "flatten the curve" now it's "kill the spread entirely") seems to be failing, globally.
our institutions, both public and private, are failing us and intentionally misleading us along the way

Russian collusion is the biggest political conspiracy theory in some time. and it was basically debunked
you saying Trump's supporters pushed that CT?

The common critique is that CT's are "self-sealing" because what could ordinarily be considered as evidence against a theory isn't dispositive to someone seriously entertaining the CT. The problem with this is that conspiracies (which obviously are historically attested to and thus plausible) do entail conspirators doing things like lying, withholding evidence, pointing fingers in other directions and other "cover-up behaviors", so a certain amount of lack of evidence shouldn't be dispositive. I think the test of conspiracies theories really should be time. We should entertain them provisionally and be more and more inclined to reject the more and more time passes without their having been confirmed.

You just have to take one look at the new Floyd video and consider what the media has been saying and stoking for a couple of months now. A conspiracy is unraveling before your eyes.

Sorry but this was a tad more believable than Hollywood is a cabal of satanic, pedos who torture and eat children to harvest the adrenochrome they are addicted to. Especially since Russian collusion was constantly in the news.

We're all capable of and inevitably will posit CT's, but we've never had a president who himself has believed so many. It's not really clear if he believes them or just advances them cynically.
