What is your take on the use of Flock Cameras?

Mine is:
These cameras are an unwarranted invasion of privacy. Since its a private company doing the surveillance, it allows law enforcement to access the data WITHOUT probable cause for a search warrant.
It's being abused by law enforcement. There is no reason for vehicle make and models, license plate readings, registration info, etc. of law abiding citizens that havent broke any laws, to be entered into a private database without probable cause. It's illegal surveillance.
The 4th amendment is just as important as the 1st and 2nd.

They try saying they are there to help if somebody is missing or whatnot however after they put one on my road now there us a black undercover sitting in a driveway everyday right at the camera trying to get people speeding.

Invasion of privacy and mass surveillance by government. No other way to view it.
Of course it makes catching bad guys easier, therefore LEO are all for it. Every law abiding citizen shouldn’t suffer mass surveillance as a by-product of catching bad guys.

I think they are great. It is a great way to engineer out crime. If people know they are more likely to get caught they will be more likely not to commit the crime.
I also think anyone that misuses the cameras should face very severe punishment.

I can attest that they've actually been used to stop terrorist activities that were almost certainly going to take place.
But I'm in agreement that there should be protective guards around internal access.
They're very easy to abuse by internal units. That's a real issue.

Really? Criminals are smart enough to look up where the cameras are located, and commit crimes where there are none.
Why dont you agree to turn over all your gun's serial numbers, makes and models. to a private company so they can place them in a database. That should help deter criminals right? Sheesh.

I think they're a step towards a nanny state, but I think we'll have trouble reining them in because there's no expectation of privacy in public.
They probably help solve crimes but I'm not sure I trust that police will use them only for the right purpose.

Right now they’re license plate readers, next year they will be live cameras on every street. Sorry but my privacy doesn’t go away because someone else says they have nothing to hide.

Shot Spotter would say otherwise.
I wonder if "marginalized people" will be as effective in discontinuing Flock as they have been in getting rid of shot spotter in some areas.

It’s a massive privacy violation, and the government will refuse to use them for anything good for the people. Flock cameras will be used, instead, to track and harass dissidents, protect corrupt politicians, let government employees spy on exes, and yet mysteriously never be useful for catching criminals or returning stolen property.

Only if they can be locked from viewing and requested to be opened to a 24 on call judge in the state. All request public. But can all that be handled correctly.
