Pausing immigration until we sort out a merit based system is the only answer.

The only immigrants we need or should want are those that are at the top of their respective fields or if they can hit a baseball 500 ft.

Safety man, safety man, what you gonna cite?
When he rolls up flashing that fluorescent light?
Safety man, safety man, clipboard in his hand,
Saving every roughneck with a fresh reprimand.

I always heard my ancestors were on the ships following the Mayflower but only hold records as far back as a birth in 1752 Virginia.

I really should get on one of the genealogy sites.

yea you should, I found out that i was direct descendant of one of the most important families in England and in turn the world and at 1 point was the 2nd most important behind on the King/Queen.

too bad within 1 generation all wealth that was sent to the new world was squandered.

Or if they can help us fill a skilled labor shortage. We don't need them for zero skill jobs.

I edited my last post. Gemini AI cleared up some history and gave additional ancestral data in seconds.

I’ll get on an actual genealogy site as soon as I have some more time.

Define skilled labor shortage. From what I’ve seen there isn’t one.

i'm all about mass deportations, but this is the most likely answer unfortunately.

we don't have the stomach for a true correction needed. it will hurt too much even though it will be better in the long run.

Industry loves cheap labor.

Industry is willing to pay lobbyists to ensure politicians keep the cheap labor train rolling.

Lobbyists, rather, lobbying being legal, have been destroying this country for 50 years.

We have anywhere from 30 to 40 million Illegal Immigrants here already. Knowing this:

-Why do we need any immigration at this point?

-What are these people going to do when Automation, AI, and Advanced Robotics come to fruition in 10 years? How will we feed, house, and support these low IQ Immigrants that are already here?

I don't have an issue with naturalization as long as they go through the entire immigration process, take the classes, assimilate, pay the fee, and actually have gainful employment.

I don't either if the US is inviting them in for some reason that benefits the citizens of the US.

I have a big problem with it if they are forcing their way into that situation.

yea trying to compare immigration of today to prior to WW2 is disingenuous AF and is only done when they have an ulterior motive

At least for people from central America, why is it so different from the Jews, Irish, Italians, Chinese, and Eastern Europeans who streamed in pre WW2?

Cajun trolling aside, I don’t see a meaningful distinction. Both are groups of people that can’t support themselves where they are born coming here for jobs. They come here with almost no material wealth, very little English and marginal skills. Almost all are in fact processed in some capacity. Their kids almost always speak English and act American.
