LSU Hit With More Season-Ending Injuries Following Ole Miss Loss

USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect
LSU's list of season-ending injuries continues to grow, as head coach Lane Kiffin revealed Sunday that wide receiver Phillip Wright III will miss the remainder of the 2026 season after suffering an injury in Week 2 against Louisiana Tech.
"Losing Philly really hurt. Another season-ending injury," Kiffin said during a Zoom call with reporters. "He was really coming along with certain design plays for him."
Kiffin declined to comment on the injuries to tight end Trey'Dez Green and safety Dashawn Spears, but CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz reported Sunday that Spears suffered a season-ending ACL injury during Saturday's 32-24 loss to Ole Miss in Oxford.
An MRI on Sunday confirmed the injury, which will sideline Spears for the remainder of the 2026 season, according to Zenitz.
Spears and Wright join EDGE rusher Gabriel Reliford and cornerback Aidan Anding as LSU players who have been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
While Kiffin declined to comment on Green's injury, his mother shared positive news on social media Sunday, revealing that an MRI showed nothing torn and that surgery will not be necessary.
Green is dealing with significant sprains and bruising and is expected to miss some games while recovering.
With Green expected to miss time, Kiffin said the Tigers have turned to tight end Roman Mothershed. LSU also has Malachi Thomas and Zach Grace on the roster.
"There's a reason we had Dae'Quan Wright practicing and ready to play," Kiffin said, referencing his former Ole Miss tight end who had been attempting to join LSU's roster earlier this month.
