Hopefully, it's invested safely and the rate exceeds inflation. Live modestly and you will be fine.

My point was that the value of $465,000 in 44 years will not be what it is today. Those dollars will have way less buying power.

Hilarious watching people do mental gymnastics to support this

It’s a math question. Not a gymnastics one. Do the math.

Is this the thing where they’re basically only investing in the TSP G-Fund?

DOGE was a nice idea many here fell for but it's gone now.

Were you under the impression that DOGE can pass funding legislation?

That's not true at all. Plenty of people who work still get benefits as long as they qualify.

Then they shouldn't get welfare. I've just never encountered them. All the people I see on welfare are unemployed because they don't want to work or else it's hard to get a job when you weigh 400 pounds.

, but let's say one wants to get us in a position to "do something" about reforming and/or somehow phasing down Social Security. Wouldn't putting something like this in place preemptively, better position us politically to be able to do that?

No, not in my opinion.

Trump loves big government and spending. I think it’s as simple as that.

How long has he ever gone without proposing some sort of stimulus or government freebie handout?

18 months, maybe?

He doesn’t always do it, it doesn’t always happen, but he’s always proposing it.

He’s basically a tax & spend democrat from about 50 years ago. The only difference is that his taxes come in the form of tariffs.

Nobody is questioning that. The math question, which you didn’t do (nor have I) is what is the present value of what we currently spend on paupers 65 and up. Is that more or less than $1000. Of course another factor is how long these accounts will last in retirement. Do that math and you will know whether this is an increase or decrease in welfare.

This seems to imply that those receiving the benefits are employed and will receive a matching amount deposited into their savings/retirement accounts up to $1000/yr. More of a financial incentive to save your money more than welfare.

This is probably a net benefit for the country even though it's more spending on the front end.

I’ve heard so many leftists make this argument for so many programs.

Key part being "matching" funds. People that qualify for this are mostly too dumb to take advantage of it. Big nothing burger.

Between this and the Trump accounts for kids, it seems like they are trying to put something in place so that they can slowly phase out Social Security.

How are they going to phase out SS. Are they going to cut checks to everyone that paid in?

We are.
This is a great idea.
Yes it's a government match, therefore a government expense.

It is also a behavioral incentive to ... wait4it ... SAVE .... and wait4it ... INVEST, for an entire class of folks who were previously disinterested in those concepts.

Negative.

As long as our debt is > 50% of GDP, there is no way in Hell Congress phases out its cheapest, most reliable borrowing program ... which is exactly what SS is.

SS is as different from the OP as Socialists are from Conservatives.

According to the left conservatives are cultists who just blindly support whatever Trump says/does.

Leftists, care to explain yet another instance of us standing on principle?
