We really need graduated welfare... steps to wean off for people capable of holding down a job. The all-or-nothing approach to welfare is what creates dependency.
I agree with you here. Someone on welfare getting 50k worth of total benefits isn’t going to get a job making 35k and lose all benefits.
If you are unemployed and able bodied and under retirement age you get a bare minimum. Just enough to survive. You get a job at minimum wage your benefits increase. As your pay increases, your benefits are reduced by 50% of total increase in pay until you cross a certain income threshold.

Welfare is giving money to people who don't work for a living. If you are a low income worker you're not on welfare.
I disagree. Welfare (as a colloquialism) is the government giving money to those who haven’t earned it.

I doubt very many low income people will put away $1000/year to get the match.
I retired 2010,probably only 1/2 my co-workers participated in the 401-B,not even enough to get the match. These were nurses making $70-$80,000.
Then when the market crash 2008,several cashed out, took the loss and paid a penalty for early withdrawal.

What about the monies intended for the youngans (via they parent or guardian)? Are we to expect kids to “earn it?” An “earn it or spurn it” policy for the children? Because if you are I am. I’ve always said it’s silly to have a “free ride” policy for children. Earn your keep, just like everyone else. I don’t care if you’re three.

That might be a little extreme, but I like the sentiment. I have two three year old grandchildren. They pick up their toys, and they “help” my wife make cookies and such, but their upkeep costs more than the value of their contributions. I pretend to keep a ledger of ruined diapers at a dollar each, but I don’t see that getting repaid.

Can’t I just get some of them straight up checks no questions asked like in Covid?

I am really regretting not taking out a PPP “loan.”

I'm okay with this
So am I. The goal is to teach people the value of saving money. That is a more worthy goal than paying for gender reassignment.

Not in this fella’s household. It’s getting repaid in full, plus interest. And let’s just say it’s a “high risk” interest rate lol. But it they wanna go to the bank and get a loan their damn selves, be my guest. Good luck with that 0 credit score tho.

Healthier food costs more. They are no longer able to purchase junk food. This may also be a ploy to get some votes in the midterms.

More money in the markets is a good thing

DOGE was the opiate for the crowd who didn't know the difference between guacamole and whackamole.

Should’ve gone a notch or two lighter on the metaphor. I’m juss sayin.
