I wonder what this is going to be worth in 44 years.

If this is your retirement plan you better plan on dying young…

People have a problem with this but not the savings accounts for kids? If this eventually replaces social security, I don't see the problem.

Maybe with the government matching up to $1000, individuals will be incentivized to start an IRA or other retirement fund?

Of course you are a malcontent, so you'll immediately throw up some poor mouth, bleeding heart horseshite response at any moment.

He wouldn’t do this unless it did.

Hopefully, it's invested safely and the rate exceeds inflation. Live modestly and you will be fine.

Every time anything like this gets tried, Dems shoot it down.

Michigan tried a welfare-to-work program and Dems fought it for years, eventually changing many of the requirements after a kid shot his 6-year-old classmate. Dems used this as an example of if the mom had only been present instead of being forced to work, then the kid wouldn't have ended up in a dangerous situation and gotten a gun.

The truth is that the mom was actually a well-known drug addict who was evicted from her house so she wound up in a crack house with her son who got the gun out of a shoebox another crack head had it in

Still, though, what a slap in the face to actual working moms to use that as an excuse to dismantle welfare to work.

The savings accounts for kids is not being 100% funded by the Fed Government

You don't remember Michael Dell and his wife making a large contribution to get it started?

It is also only for kids born from 2025-2028 since not all of it is federally funded, and the private contributions will run out by then.

I thought we were trying to get people off the Government tit?

Don’t know if it like this or not. What does the federal government pay for paupers aged 65 or more? If we know that we can run a PV of that and see if it is more or less than $1000.

Of course, my preference would be that number being zero.

Why don’t they let poor people fight in some sort of colosseum

They all claim to know how to fight and if they win it will further their rap career

Matching... meaning the presumptive savers must actually put in as well.
I'm okay with this.

Yeah, I don't see where this is rewarding people on welfare. It says 'low income Americans.' There are people who have low income jobs. And if you have a wife and a kid you're still low income despite working from age 21-65.

1. where does it say low income?
2. it is an account that is started for you that you pay into. This sounds like the Kid's Trump accounts for adults. It is managed similar to a pension. You still have to work and add your own money to it.

Sounds to me like some matching funds for low income earners who still save a little for retirement.

I'm totally against welfare. Read more carefully. I'm questioning whether this is going to welfare recipients. I don't know the details. Welfare is giving money to people who don't work for a living. If you are a low income worker you're not on welfare.

That's not true at all. Plenty of people who work still get benefits as long as they qualify.
