I wonder what the average daily temperature was. No way you can pull that off in a southern U.S. summer. Millions would die of complications from Swamp arse.

I just ran 50+ years in a row on fossil fuels. Thanks Obama!

Never mind that they are not counting the power purchased from Spain

Why did they only do it for six days?

Very misleading as always. So many obvious details left out and it seems they really cherry picked the conditions. It has happened twice before since 2019.

I don’t know about you but energy is necessary 24/7/365 and not only when possible due to a certain climate condition for 6 days in November. Perfect example of headline sensationalism.

Georgia has 11 million, and Portugal's sustainable bullshite is just enough electricity to keep Stacey Abrams in Mcnuggets.

why stop at 7? If its feasible then ride 24/7/356

It's Portugal (Europe) so it should be 365/24/7?

BS! Is hey stored up a weeks worth of energy and then started the timer? None of the energy was produced by coal or fuel? BS!

This was like when people pointed out Portugal had less deaths than the US during covid.

Portugal square miles wise is smaller than Louisiana.

It looks like renewables are feasible.

Aw cmon baw do you know what portugal is? It's a tiny country, poorest in western europe, often a dictatorship, very low growth and energy usage, and receives prevailing winds off the entire atlantic ocean.

You couldn't run New Jersey on renewables for six days, and Portugal is 5x larger.

It was a highly optimistic view if renewables. No way you only have 9 blackout days.

I think Portual is probably one of the betters to do this based on their landscape, weather, and location. They have great access to the sea, very windy, very sunny, and have downstream rivers to dam.

That being said I think this is absolutely great, we should be doing what we can to invest in alternative forms of energy so that we are never completely reliant on one form. However, you cannot skip steps in this. You can't just say alright we did it for 6 days, now we can decomission fossil fuel plants because we can do it always like this. I think the next step would be to run in parrellel while slowly making the renewables more and more of the primary energy source. That can give you a better idea of what seasonal price fluxuations you would see, how reliable it can be during different times of the year, how well your batteries can maintain for their lifecycle as opposed to under new and optimal conditions. The goal would be to slowly over the course of years you would want to try and make fossil fuels a complete secondary/backup system. But you would have to understand what events can take all of your renewables offline, and how much fossil fuels would you need in order to perform backup power for the whole country with no down time.

THis process alone could take 10-15 years and they could determine that they need to expand their fossil based plants because they need to have complete backup in case of emergencies. So many of the climate activists in the world want a complete switch over today and that cannot happen. Its completely impossible, so I guesxs we will continue to see them glue theirselves to the ground.

Someone explain to me how massive scale wind energy projects won’t screw over the climate? Aren’t we stealing energy from wind and slowing down movement of weather systems and its cooling effects.

This seems bad and we have no idea what we are fricking around with.
