The shift only works with better percentages when you have a pitcher who has elite control. We do not have a pitcher with that control on the staff that you can count on to throw 75% of their pitches to the spot that is called.

Skenes and Anderson had that control. These are the only pitchers over the last few years that you could gain outs by using the shift.

Eyanson had good numbers but his “elite stuff” got hitters out, not “elite control”. And I think the world of Eyanson. He will be in the bigs for a long career.

Point is, Jay is trying to overcomplicate the game. He’s a good coach but I wish he wouldn’t get so analytical in the X’s and O’s of in-game coaching.

Somebody has to be blackmailing these people. They jump through so many hoops just to not say something that is common sense. Someone has told her what to say and if she doesn’t, something bad will happen.
