This is stupid and disappointing.

Of all the shite that guy did, this is the best they could do? A charge that is likely almost immediately dismissed and a complete waste of time.

And no charges for any of the actual shite he did.

Pure fricking theater.

want you to believe it's a mob term is just more propaganda

So Google is spreading propaganda? Down to placing a timeline on when the term began to be used for murder?

quote:

In relation to the mafia or mob, "86" is slang for to kill, execute, or murder someone.
While it is recognized by slang dictionaries as an extension of meaning "to get rid of", there is a famous urban legend regarding how the mob allegedly invented the term:

The "8 Miles Out, 6 Feet Under" Legend

The most popular myth connects the numbers directly to a mob execution method, particularly in early Las Vegas:
• 8: Take the target 8 miles out into the desert.
• 6: Bury them 6 feet under (the standard depth for a grave).

What Etymologists and FBI Files Say

Despite how perfectly that "8 miles, 6 feet" story fits, it is a myth.
1. The Timeline Doesn't Match: The term "86" was already widely documented in restaurant and soda-fountain jargon in the early 1930s (long before the mob built up Las Vegas).
2. No Record in Wiretaps: Language experts and historians have pointed out that decades of FBI wiretaps on actual mob social clubs and bosses never caught anyone using "86" to mean assassination. Real mafiosi preferred terms like "whacking," "clipping," "icing," or "taking care of" someone.
The phrase crossed over into general crime slang in the 1970s purely as a harsher extension of its original meaning: if you can "86" a menu item or a rowdy customer, you can "86" a person permanently

It's really easy to just look this stuff up. I don't know why y'all endlessly argue about it.

Exactly. It’s not about actually achieving justice, it’s about sending the message that Trump can make your life a living hell if you go against him. It’s working beautifully

Yes, I did.

You apparently didn't, because none of that denies that the term has been used as a term for murder since the 70s.

All it does is dispel a myth about how it came to be used that way.

Did you really think that was a gotcha' to anybody but yourself?

Comey needs to "commit suicide" soon. Under no circumstances can Trump let that POS get away with this. We all know the courts cannot be trusted, so maybe convince the Clintons he has dirt on them.

it's from restaurant kitchens, ie "we're out of the oysters, 86 em".

My dad used the term 60 years ago when I was a tyke. He used it to mean "throw it away".

Your explanation doesn't make sense to me. If we're out of oysters how can I 86 them, unless 86 means "get more"?

I'm all for prosecuting these Ruling Class assholes for whatever they legitimately did that was illegal and I'm all for being very aggressive about it instead of holding to "the code" and everybody protecting each other, and I'm even o.k. with Trump prioritizing the people who went after him, again, providing that the prosecution is based on actual illegal activity.

But, "It's not about the law at all, it's just about Trump getting revenge for someone hurting his feelings or making him angry" is not o.k.

The fact that MAGA has no regard for the rule of law or the constitution and apparently wants the US to become a bannana republic is a problem.

They killed Charlie Kirk for speaking. Keep blaming maga though for no rule of the law or being civil.
