anecdotal for sure and i'm certain there are plenty on here that know a lot more about building ships than i do (which is zero) but...my buddy james worked in china for a couple years building ocean freighters. he said that shite runs 24/7 and in the course of any given build there would be dozens of fatalities. work didn't stop for those, other than to scoop up what was left of the victim. labor standards alone is enough, but factor in access to cheap materials and far more lax standards, i don't see the usa ever competing or catching up. doesn't mean we shouldn't expand our capacity, but it will never touch china imo
