Gun purchasers may need to submit social media history under proposed New York legislation

Fox News
I know, I know, it's only a proposal and not a law.
I know, I know, it will never get passed.
I know this, but I also know that cities like New York are used to float trial baloons to see how they go over, in the hopes of pushing the same tactics later on a national scale.
The fact that anyone would even raise such a suggestion is frightening enough.

Those looking to buy a gun in New York may need to submit their social media profiles and search history prior to purchase if new firearm legislation in the state becomes law. Under the legislation drafted by Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and State Senator Kevin Parker, both Democrats, up to three years’ worth of search history on social media would be able to be reviewed, ABC Action News reported. Senate Bill 9191, according to WHAM, mandates "social media and search engine reviews prior to the approval of an application or renewal of a license to carry or possess a pistol or revolver; requires a person applying for a license to carry or possess a pistol or revolver or a renewal of such license to consent to having his or her social media accounts and search engine history reviewed and investigated for certain posts and/or searches over a period of 1-3 years prior to the approval of such application or renewal; defines terms."

They will probably consider not having a social media history as a red flag. "He must be hiding something."
I'm also curious about how they plan to enforce this. Am I going to have to bring all my computers to them? Provide them my IP address? Are they going to try to force ISPs and search engines to turn over the info? This seems like it would be highly difficult to verify. It makes me think that you are going to have to prove you are responsible enough to have a gun as opposed to them proving you aren't. Which, I'm sure, is what they want.

Good for New York.
Guns shouldn't be given to people who post stuff about killing people.

If they are comfortable with that,
then they should be fine if it looked like this:

Sounds good until one of your own sacred cows get slaughtered with that same sword. Be careful of requiring a citizen to sacrifice one right in order to exercise another.

It is only a starter point for more control over citizens.

I did it and feel fantastic. TD is the closest thing I have to a social media.

So you don't think any rap artist should ever be allowed to own a firearm.
