Ok, Mr Macho Man...let's shoot (assumed) unarmed robbers! Yeah! Next time someone walks in who I don't like, I can shoot him and say I saw him trying to steal a $2 bottle of water and it will be ok.
If he's showing a gun, then by all means, shoot the bastard. But if you don't see one, naw dog, you cannot execute someone for stealing a bottle of water.

That kid spent his whole time in that store acting as guilty as a person could be. Slinking around, pretending interest in multiple things, constantly checking positions, angles of retreat, etc. He had the creation of many more victims on his agenda. His victim count was cut short.

It wasn't a false accusation. Even if the kid put the water bottles back, he still lifted them.
I wonder if this young sophisticant woke up that afternoon thinking, "Man, today would be a good day to die over a couple bottles of Nestlé Pure Life. Let's go find out!".
This story is sad but Good Lord. How hard is it to just be a kid and not do stupid adult things that typically result in maxing out the FA/FO scale?

And Chow was still acquitted against those odds. If this happened in Baton Rouge or New Orleans those juries would have convicted Chow in an instant.

Jury nullification swings both ways.

If everyone stole just one item from every store they entered… we’d have no stores.
This particular kid (as is common with most thieves) stole from that same store before- this wasn’t a first encounter.
I’m okay with harsh consequences for thieves- if “the law” actually gave a damn about enforcing laws on the books, people wouldn’t need to shoot these “just a bottle of water” asshats.

I’ve followed this recently as it was heading to trial…. They overcharged this man and played up the race angle but could not even remotely prove that the kid didn’t point the weapon. The reality.. the kid was in the store with an empty backpack accept for a gun. I’m sorry he’s dead but his death falls squarely on his own actions that day..
