re: Death Penalty: Yeah or Nay?Posted by LaPride55 on 1/13/23 at 7:03 am to Lutcher Lad
I am not only for it, but I think the state should focus on adopting a less controversial method (hanging/ gas chamber) and focus on clearing out our death row in the next year or two (appeals should be done by now). It will again be the deferent it should be.

In my younger years I was all for it. Not that I am nearing 50 I am way less passionate about it.
I don't like saying "never" but would prefer sentences carry some sort of community benefit and while I understand that low paying labor for criminals hurts the business who provide many community services I still think there are things they can do for little or no pay to help better the communities in which they damaged.

Yes.
There are some folks that are truly just evil. Something happens mentally and they just become evil with a desire to kill.
That’s not someone that is ever gonna be rehabilitated or be a benefit to society of any kind.

For death penalty conceptually.
Against it as applied: I don't trust the government to get anything right--why in the hell would I want them deciding who lives/dies? Too many folks on death row exonerated by DNA evidence (over 100 via Project Innocence).

I’m philosophically opposed to the death penalty because I don’t believe in government sanctioned murder. I believe that serial killers, or people who commit heinous crimes “deserve” to die, but I don’t like giving the government the power to murder people. I would be more “okay” with a victim’s family carrying out vigilante justice than allowing the state to kill a person.

I think there should be a voluntary express option, as well as a choose your own execution package.

I do however think we should force prisoners to work. If they refuse then they don’t get fed, but they should not be killed.

So, death penalty, no.
But slavery and torture, yes?
Slavery and torture? That's where your mind went?

One appeal and it better be a good one or you're toast imo.

Look I said I was okay with the death penalty in cases of zero doubt.
He’s the one who said I’m not okay the death penalty, but I’ll make them work for life, and if they refuse I still wouldn’t kill them I’ll just starve them.

When there's no doubt, nuke em.
The average death row prisoner costs $60k+ per year.
General pop is less at around $40k per year.
Do the math, for a teenager or 20-somthing, you could be looking at $3.5 million and up for that one piece of shite.
I'd rather the victim's family get something than pay for this. Prisoners really should be forced to work to pay their debt to society. Sort garbage, make gravel, whatever, I don't care. Make Prison Awful Again.

Yes some people just need killing like the rabid dogs they are but the true failure is the time and money it takes to get this done. Bullets are cheap and rope is cheaper as it’s reusable. No reason it should take years. Why we give people life without parole is beyond me
