In the first world with secure prisons , nope, don’t need it. You can easily lock someone up for life.

In places like Somalia or Angola where I’m sure prison is a revolving door depending on how much money and power you have , then I can understand the death penalty.

Yes, there are simply some people that should not be allowed to live. Too heinous and twisted. Zero recidivism.

The death penalty is not cruel or unusual in the context of the constitution.

When I was younger I supported the death penalty 100%. Then as I got older and got more involved and more engaged in my Catholic faith I now oppose it.
In my heart, I truly believe we don’t have authority to take the life of another person, whether that person is in the womb, a murderer, or someone who wants to commit suicide.
I completely understand people who support it and know that people who support death penalty are not evil like those who support abortion because the life taken is innocent when aborted.

When is there ever really "no doubt".

My biggest issue with the death penalty is the uncertainty in our justice system. It is bad enough to send an innocent man to prison. Killing them is unforgivable.

And for those who believe the death penalty is a deterrent, its not much of one. Its Criminal Justice 101. Criminals don't think they will get caught; they aren't worried about the consequences.

Yep. I'm more extreme though, because I think you should like say good bye to whomever and be executed immediately. Like walk to a big silo with a furnace at the bottom and jump in type shite.

The likelihood of being convicted for a death penalty level crime and later being found innocent is microscopic in number. So throw that argument out the window with today's science and technology.

"Eye for an eye". Death should be the only punishment for murder.

Which is admirable, but when it comes to being a punishment...I personally don't believe Christianity takes this authority away. Plenty of signs in The Bible that confirm it, to me at least, over the reverse. My main thing is that I don't believe Jesus condemned the actual act He was given as a penalty.

IMO...we need to thin out the herd of evil that festers in our prisons, both for moral and financial reasons.

And as another mentioned...it's Constitutional, so imo I do feel it covers all my bases to sleep at night.

I don't believe the government should have the power to murder its own citizens. Especially not through legal proceedings.

Addressing the cause or root of this evil would serve us better than executing people. We need to start being proactive instead of reactive.

nope against death penalty as it is cheaper to keep someone in prision for life than all the appeals a death penalty case takes. I also feel sitting in a prison cell for life missing every aspect of an outside world is more punishment than ending it quickly.

Funny all the people against abortion calling it murder but for the death penalty that is murder. And save me from the but ones a baby and one is a criminal. All life should be worth living and not killing.

The very idea that a murderer would prefer life in prison over the death which he rendered to the victim speaks to the power within the Death Sentence. There are only two possibilities re a ‘Next Life’. First is ‘no god/no afterlife. The whole of a soulless Humanity goes into the Universal Energy/Matter Dumpster. Second: God exist and “knows the heart”, enacting true Justice for all peoples next life. Either way, it doesn’t profit either society or a fake-repentant murderer to prolong Judgement. If there is God, get back in the game; if not, we are all toast. That said, a time for counseling and posssible true repentance should be allowed. GW Bush let the Texas Woman who owned her crime and truly repented get executed. He’ll never live that down. Or escape judgment for his selfish (winning POTUS) choice. It warms my heart that a Just God rules. Otherwise, I’d be a cynical and nihilistic rogue vigilante, with zero hope or accountability.

No

I’m also against abortion

In short, I’m comfortable in my faith, and that informs my consistency.

To each their own though.

No problem when it comes to serial rapist, child molesters, mass murderers, sick and twisted murders. Should be a no brainers as these people are not going to be rehabilitated.

If found guilty, let it rip.
