Total medals should not count for "first place". Thats gay af. it should be the system where:
Gold = 3 pts
Silver = 2 pts
Bronze = 1 point
Gold = 3 pts
Silver = 2 pts
Bronze = 1 point

This is the way, or even 1/1.5/2 if you want their values closer.

I'd go with 10 - 5 - 3.
I think we can all agree that 1 gold is worth more than 3 bronzes. 2 bronzes is worth more than 1 silver. Two silvers is about as good as 1 gold.

We should take the medals that people who come here and play in college but go play for their country
Like China tries to include HK and Taiwan in their counts

It’s silly that the US sites list the teams by total medals.

I'd really be interested to see a breakdown of medals in regards to number of athletes a country sent.
For example, if a country only sent roughly 30 Olympians, but they came home with about 7 medals(looking at you Kenya or Jamaica). That would technically be more impressive than a country with 300 Olympians that took home about 35 medals.
I wonder fi that's already a thing that is tracked, if not, I may dive into that once this is all said and done.

I see what you’re saying but it’s not as cut and dry as that. Some countries only send the athletes they think can medal due to costs.

Considering this is before track starts not really. We’ll be head and shoulders ahead of everyone by the end of track.

I’m dumb
yea it does seem close. I think the ten point system is a good separator for when teams are tied in medals though.
