Deployments, each stripe is 6 months. So he has over 7 years total on deployments.

See that red arrowhead shaped patch with a black dagger on it? That means this old dude can kill you in many, many ways.

That dude has seen things that he can’t speak about. Straight up bad arse. These young men are fully aware of the accolades they are receiving and from whom they are receiving them from. I’m happy under this President that young brave men like this are rewarded for the bravery and strong character against the evil that has been allowed for to long.

Great and well-deserved honors.

Probably also will dissuade the local DA from pursuing any charges against these boys.

Delta is the apex when it comes to special forces

They’re good, but I don’t know that I’d call them the apex. They are the best of what people commonly hear about, but there are groups that grab dudes out of Delta for selection that are even better and more selective.

Dudes that fly so far under the radar even the guys who know of them don’t talk about them. Those dudes are the real apex.

This is like talking about whether Superman can beat up Hulk. No question the teams have the PR machine but 6 is considered parallel to Delta and there are even smaller groups that recruit from both of them.

Honestly, we have a lot of capable units. Who gets used for missions, especially a high profile mission like Bin Laden, comes down to who has the political power within SOCOM. Hell, they may have drawn straws behind closed doors.

If you talk to the operators, Delta is obviously Tier 1. So is Dev Gru, etc. But the most elite tier 1 operators these days are coming from the Air Force Combat Controllers of 24 SST. 90-95% washout rate. These guys go with all the other Tier Ones and train with all of them. Just one. And his job quite often is the be the only person stepping out of the plane to go get an airstrip ready for those to follow.

Taking a life isn't easy, even with good justification.

What I think that look conveys is gratitude and probably a bit of sadness that fate placed these young men into a position of having to take a life outside a theater of war (ie: in a place one wouldn't expect for such a need to arise).

CCTs are cool and all (and personally I hope they are carrying the torch well).

I wasn’t thinking of them when I was talking about groups rarely spoken of that pull from Delta and anyone else.

We can’t leave PJs out of the discussion of known units full of bad asses. They pretty much do everything the other groups mentioned do and are also bad arse medics.

I've been on the receiving and presenting end of a few awards during my lifetime...never received one from someone with that look on his face.
