I can remember it being on lists of “most dangerous towns in the US as far back as early 2000’s. Nice downtown though. Def doesn’t feel dangerous in my experience, which is admittedly somewhat limited.

I once woke up on a pool table at the Cate Street Cantina after a long night of walking downtown Hammond looking for lizards n shite. Old Dr Sheppard’s class.

Everyone knows what the problem is in Hammond and there's not much that can be done about it when we have the most incompetent law enforcement around.

Born and raised in Hammond. This is 100% the reason!
Grew up going out in Hammond.
We never saw thugs out in the downtown area until 10-12 years ago. They started showing up at the Cates St area bars because it is closest to the hood. Crystal st area locally know as the third world area.
The bars in that area started catering to them by playing rap music etc. Even had Boosie play last year. It attracted people from everywhere.
Now the area is just getting the clientele and the crime that comes with it.

Louisiana has some of the best people in the country.
Louisiana also has some of the Worst people in the country.
Unfortunately they’re not confined to cities the way they are in most other states. It’s spread out across almost every town in Louisiana. Just bad demographics.
Too many leaches bringing the good folks down. Thus we leave for border states.

It's not incompetent law enforcement. It's incompetent city council. Three of them specifically. The current law enforcement knows what the issue is and has ideas on how to stop the current situation. They are handcuffed by the city council. Listen to some of the meetings.
