There’s preferential treatment for superstars in American sports too, Brady and Mahomes get protected over other players. Stars on the basketball court seem to get way more calls than regular players.

As someone that really likes Messi, but does not like the rest of the Argentina team at all, the calls yesterday in regards to the VAR were correct per the rules in place.

You need to be a certain size to play football and height to play professional basketball. If you are 5’8, you have basically no chance at either of the those sports at a high level (outside of a lightning fast returner)

I wrote this in another thread but I feel like people underestimate the cultural differences in regards to soccer when compared to most European countries. Those kids grow up with a ball on their foot since the day they can walk. They play at school recess and in the streets with their friends everyday. Their entire families played and they grow up around the game. And outside of a few other minor sports, there is only soccer. These kids all have had over a million touches of the ball by the time they are only 10 yrs old. You can have the best athlete in America at 12 yrs old start playing soccer and he will never catch up from a technical standpoint .

People underestimate the cultural aspect of soccer in European countries. Not only are the vast majority of their youth athletes soccer players, they grow up with the sport as soon as they are born. Kids play in the neighborhood with their friends every day, they play at recess, they play with their fathers and family who all played soccer their whole life. Even with our vast population and resources, it’s not easy to overcome our cultural shortcomings compared to these established countries.

Lebron is way too big to be a professional soccer player and wouldn’t have the endurance due to his physical stature. He’s 5 inches taller and 40lbs heavier than physical soccer freak Erling Haaland

Also Haaland isn’t just a world class player because he’s physically dominate. His dad played in the premier league and he grew up playing high level academy ball his whole childhood.

Definitely one of the best World Cup games I’ve ever seen. However, it’s not at the level of the last final in Qatar.
