There’s preferential treatment for superstars in American sports too, Brady and Mahomes get protected over other players. Stars on the basketball court seem to get way more calls than regular players.
As someone that really likes Messi, but does not like the rest of the Argentina team at all, the calls yesterday in regards to the VAR were correct per the rules in place.

Meslier hasn't played a professional game since May 2025. Got benched for a 35+ year old.
quote:You need to be a certain size to play football and height to play professional basketball. If you are 5’8, you have basically no chance at either of the those sports at a high level (outside of a lightning fast returner)
It’s not disingenuous at all. Every top athlete in the US would choose football over soccer right now. Most of them would choose basketball over soccer. Some of them would choose baseball over soccer.
I wrote this in another thread but I feel like people underestimate the cultural differences in regards to soccer when compared to most European countries. Those kids grow up with a ball on their foot since the day they can walk. They play at school recess and in the streets with their friends everyday. Their entire families played and they grow up around the game. And outside of a few other minor sports, there is only soccer. These kids all have had over a million touches of the ball by the time they are only 10 yrs old. You can have the best athlete in America at 12 yrs old start playing soccer and he will never catch up from a technical standpoint .

PSA to everyone, there is no reason to not have an account set up with all of them and have your credit frozen.

An estimated 42 million people watched the United States Men's National Team (USMNT) Round of 16 match against Belgium across combined English and Spanish-language broadcasts

He wasn’t comfortable kicking the ball with his left foot when took an awkward bounce. Typical US keeper unfortunately
quote:People underestimate the cultural aspect of soccer in European countries. Not only are the vast majority of their youth athletes soccer players, they grow up with the sport as soon as they are born. Kids play in the neighborhood with their friends every day, they play at recess, they play with their fathers and family who all played soccer their whole life. Even with our vast population and resources, it’s not easy to overcome our cultural shortcomings compared to these established countries.
I know it’s cliche, but our best athletes would dominate Soccer.

No he isn't. People don't care about soccer. People do care about US Soccer. 90% of that audience will not likely watch another soccer game until 2030 (except maybe some that watch the Gold Cup

quote:Lebron is way too big to be a professional soccer player and wouldn’t have the endurance due to his physical stature. He’s 5 inches taller and 40lbs heavier than physical soccer freak Erling Haaland
feels like lebron would be a pretty good candidate if given the proper lifelong dedication/coaching he inevitably would have if soccer was our #1 sport quote:
Also Haaland isn’t just a world class player because he’s physically dominate. His dad played in the premier league and he grew up playing high level academy ball his whole childhood.

re: Where does that match rank in the history of the World Cup?

Definitely one of the best World Cup games I’ve ever seen. However, it’s not at the level of the last final in Qatar.
I was really looking forward to this game and it lived up to everything and more.

Wow that’s an outrageous amount of low test beta males all participating in the same activity at once. May be a world record.
I know losing Balogun hurts our chances but Belgium is definitely beatable. They have not been very good for the majority of this World Cup.
Morocco deserve the win more but let’s see what happens

Premier League refs are seemingly just morons

quote:Definitely intriguing seeing him centrally for Brazil. He took out Paqueta in the midfield the previous 2 games and Cunha at center forward today.
Still think I we hold on to Martinelli he needs more shifts as an out and out CF. Also, Ancelloti been kinda running him as a faux midfielder/ss which is interesting.
